Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 116,000 miles
Incident: Defog & heat does not work; had to drive 25 miles with windshield wipers on constantly in order to clear windshield, still did not do well even with newer wipers... 1) I woke up, started up Jeep Grand Cherokee in order to defog windshield since it got cooler overnight leaving fog on windshield. 2) defog would not work, even though the vehicle had warmed up sufficiently and temp gauge indicated such as well. 3) had to take to dealer since regular mechanic could not perform service; replaced actuator, blend door and other parts. (unk if replaced parts are available since dealer performed service repair.

Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles
I have 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with electronic dual climate controls will eventually require major repair in order to cure hot air/cold air blowing from vents when they're not set to do so. The cost to repair this issue, which has been known to pop up again after another 50K miles after repair, is generally $800-$1500 from a dealership. Should you opt to do this repair yourself, the entire dashboard will need to be removed, quite the arduous process, and parts are approximately >$300.

problem #24

Nov 012006

Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles
HVAC blend doors broken in a position such that only cold air blows from system. This allows for no defrost of any of the front windows posing a significant hazard during winter travel. This is the second of this body style Grand Cherokee (99-04) I have owned, and both vehicles experienced the same failure between 50K and 60K miles. The first vehicle (1999) was repaired by heritage Chrysler Jeep in ozark, mo for about $1300. The second vehicle (2001) has just experienced the same problem over last winter and is now in need of repair. I believe that this condition exists due to a poor design from the manufacturer and that the threat involved from potential limited visibility in the winter, coupled with the significant cost of repair and safety concerns, warrants a recall.

Air conditioner vents and defroster vents no longer controllable via automatic thermostat. Blend door failure. Inability to defrost the front windshield resulted in conditions unsafe for continued operation of the vehicle due to poor visibility.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles
On my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited climate control is not functioning properly. No matter what the setting is, it blows cold air from some vents and hot from others. The repair cost is estimated around $1200. The brakes were almost causing a loss of control while driving down the mountain road. The truck would start shaking violently as I apply the brakes, to the point where the steering was not affecting the behavior of the truck. Repair and part replacements cost $820. Outrageous!

Grand Cherokee 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 53,500 miles
We purchased a 2001 Grand Cherokee limited from a local dealership with 50,000 miles in may of 2005. No heat from both passenger or drivers side vents. Blend door hinges separated and inop. Recirculation door also inoperable vehicle had 53,500 miles at this time. Drivers seat heater failed at 65,000 miles. PCM failed at 75,000 miles and this was the only repair covered under warranty. The Jeep now has 81,000 miles and we have had vibration and pedal pulsation from the front brakes three times since we purchased the vehicle.

Grand Cherokee 4WD 8-cyl

A faulty blower motor resistor has rendered my heater from working. The temp is around 20 degrees and without the blower, I cannot defrost my windows to drive safely. The blower motor resistor is out of the vehicle with visual electrical charring. The wiring harness is also melted. I've talked to 2 different dealers and their parts department has dealt with this problem before. So, I contacted the Jeep customer service 800 number. But according to your "customer service" line, I need to get my vehicle back to the dealer so they can tell me what I already know. My question is why the blower motor resistor is back ordered 4,000-6,000 parts" and why if I take my vehicle back to the dealer, will I be expedited a part. Are they creating a demand by not supplying the part and then the dealers raise the price of the part" I have already had one dealer say that if they locate one, that it'll cost more than the price advertised on their web site. This is the worse customer service I have ever had.
