2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Consumer writes in regards to several expenses related to vehicle and requests reimbursement the consumer stated the front brakes which included the rotors master cylinder, left rear seal axle, bearing, snap ring had to be replaced more than once on different occasions. Also, the vehicle broke down on several occasions and smoke was emitting from the vehicle on one of those occasions. It was discovered the relay fan radiator fan needed to be replaced. The transduce pressure sensor, solenoid, transmission gov and gasket were replaced at a cost of $ $530.50. The consumer stated the horn began blaring for no apparent reason and then stopped working/ two days later, all the gauges in the vehicle went to zero and all the interior lights illuminated and the windows did not work. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and a diagnostics test revealed an electrical problem. Updated 11/10/11 updated 11/22/11.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 60 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle vibrated excessively when the brake pedal was depressed. The failure was continuous and occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they replaced both front brake pads under warranty. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer and independent mechanic on separate occasions for replacement of both front brake pads and rotors at the contact's expense. There has been no resolution and the vehicle has not been properly repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 12,000 and current mileage was 55,000.

While driving at various speeds, the brake pedal will extend to the floor as if there were pressure loss. The contact must literally stand on the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. Also, the wiring on the instrument panel that controls the air conditioning fan has failed. The dealer stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that when he depressed the brake pedal, the brake lights and parking lights failed. The failure was caused by an electrical defect. The gear was shifted into neutral in order to stop the vehicle. While driving in reverse, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle lunged backwards. The driving conditions were favorable during both failures. Prior to these failures, the vehicle operated normally and had no previous repair work. The current and failure mileages were 77,000.

Front calipers and rotors were replaced for rotor warpage at 10,200 miles under tsb warranty. At 38,500 miles the vehicle requires rotors again. The manufacturer is now specifying an upgraded slotted/ventilated rotor, suggesting the original design* tsb repair were improperly engineered. Consumers should not bear the financial brunt of this fundamental safety defect.

The recommended fix is to install a differently manufactured caliper and rotor, the original design is defective. Reference tsb 00500302B. It is a dangerous and expensive safety related fix due to defective initial design.

Consumer had to replace brakes, pads, and rotors 4 times in 9,000 miles. When applying brakes car will shake violently.

The consumer's front rotors and brakes warped. They seemed to be replaced every 5000 to 7000 miles. The brake pedal pulsated and finally gave out. The consumer has had the brakes and calipers replaced once and rotors 3 times, and now the brakes and rotors are being replaced again. The consumer has replaced brakes and rotors at 7913, 1906, 24654, 32334 miles. Front brake caliper were replaced at 7913 miles.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee experienced problems with the rotor and pads. The dealer replaced the rotors and pads at 20000 miles and 29000 at 35000 the rotors had to be resurfaced. At 37000 the rotors had to be replaced again. Now at 39000 miles the brakes are becoming a problem again.

Concern regarding safety of brakes, shake very noticeably when brakes applied. Replaced front rotors and calipers. There was continuing unresolved brake problems. The steering would also shake when the brakes were applied, the shaking and pulsation problem worsened, the cd changer had an internal fault, there was a fault in the transmission governor pressure sensor, the transmission leaked from the T casse adapter seals, the front PCV valve leaked at the front grommet on the valve cover, the front body seal was loose, there was a whine when the vehicle was driven up hill and upon acceleration, and the front rotors were out of round.
