Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission

This vehicle was purchased new in 2004 and I have been very satisfied with it's performance. I took it to Mexico to use at my winter residence about 4 or 5 years ago. Two years ago it started to occasionally require repeated attempts to start or would cut out completely on the highway. It could start again and operate 3 or 4 days following working perfectly only to have it happen again. We replaced the crankcase sensor, and fuel pump to no avail and recently have had the computer diagnosed by a local Jeep dealer to confirm it tested OK. I concluded that it was a possible loose terminal connection at the computer. We used a contact spray to clean the terminals and laced them into the computer tightly with quick ties thinking it may be wiggling loose going over the many speed bumps encountered here. However, it has happened again since such that we lack confidence to use the vehicle for longer trips not wishing to get stranded with a permanent problem far from a dealer. Local mechanics suspect the computer or ignition keys to the computer but either of our two programmed keys work prove equal without pointing towards a resolution to the problem. Surely, someone in the Crysler/Jeep organization can pinpoint this problem to ensure a complete fix restoring our confidence in the Jeep product. We have owned three of them to date &have always been satisfied until now! The vehicle is two good to scrap but we need to know if our investment of a replacement computer will assure the problem is resolved.
