On April 19th, 2019, I went to drive my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and my dashboard was lit like a Christmas tree and the shifter was lighting up as well. The dash kept flashing "service shifter" and "service power steering." The engine light as well came up on the dash. The shifter would not let me shifter it. So I decided to turn the vehicle off and turn it back on. I called my dealership where I purchased the Jeep from and they said I would not be able to come in today even though my car isn't working, and that they are booked till Wednesday. Not acceptable. The service scheduler said if I came in today and pitched a fit that they would probably look at my car but don't tell them that she told me to do that.... UMM OKAY.
So once I turned my car back on it started up fine, but I still went to the dealership. When I got there the service agents were socializing so I waited. A service agent came up and asked if I needed to make an appointment and I said no, I need someone to look at my Jeep now. She made a look and said followed me. She checked the oil and said everything is fine. I luckily took a video of the dash and the shifter when it was acting up so I showed her. She said well it's not doing it now. (I honestly have no idea how I didn't lose my mind.) She said she would run some codes for a low price of $129.99, way to slip that in there. But I agreed because I didn't think the problem was just gone. When I drove the Jeep around to the garage it acted up again. So I recorded it again, and she said oh. (OH?!? That's it?! Ok.) When I went into the service department, the manager was there saying its most likely the shifter needing to be replaced and that I should just trade the Jeep in. I said we'll see so she kept the Jeep and I got a ride home.
A couple hours later, I got a call from the dealership saying they figured out the problem and I needed a new battery. Apparently, the dealership was out of stock of the Mopar battery but they could get a battery from AutoZone down the road for a couple bucks cheaper. The warranty would be through the dealership still though. The total cost for battery and diagnostic was $505.46. She said she would have the Jeep back to me that evening by 4:30pm. Around 4, I haven't heard from the dealership so I called. She said they are still running test, so they wanted to keep it overnight. Saturday the tech called out. So I finally got the Jeep back on Tuesday. Paid for the battery and drove home.
Wednesday, April 24th, driving to work at 7am, probably 2 miles away from my house at a red light, went to go at green and the car acted up again. Same problems. Service shifter, service power steering, dash lit up, shifer wouldn't shift. So I drove the car straight to the dealership. Waited till they opened at 7:30am and demanded for a rental. The dealership wouldn't give me a rental because it's not a warranty issue. But in my head, I was thinking they don't even know what the issue was so how can they rule out a warranty issue. But I know for sure the battery didn't solve anything.
