Key will not turn. Ignition is lock. It was parked. Next day, will would not turn. Need a recall, this should not happen and is hazardous to women being stranded on highways. This should not have to be paid by consumers for a defect in a Chrysler product.

Jeep Liberty 2002, ignition problems. Key goes into ignition but will not move backwards or forward, steering is locked as well. Occurs a couple times a year so far, usually by fiddling with it after 15 minutes I can get it started up. Not this time, the key won't budge either way and my car won't start.

My 2002 Jeep Liberty limited's ignition will not turn with the key in place. First occurrence, I was able to jiggle the key and get it to finally turn to start, 2nd time it took me bout 10 mins of jiggling the key and it finally turned and started. 3rd time, same situation. Now the 4th time and it's sitting in our garage, will not turn to start.

2002 Jeep Liberty will not start when turning key in ignition. From what I've read online, this is a widespread problem. I'm trying to find a place to repair; first service department said that they cannot do it because a dealership will need to reprogram the key to the mechanics of the steering column. This problem has been happening several times in the last week. Very problematic since we live in Ohio and have a 15 month old. Cannot afford to be stranded with a toddler in frigid weather.

While towing our 2002 Jeep Liberty le behind an rv, with key in the first click position, the keys have twice fallen out of the ignition switch and caused the front wheels to lock in an other than straight-ahead position. This means the switch has rotated, on its own, to the off position. In the first instance, in 2004, there was no damage other than some scuffing on the edges of the tires - due to the wheels becoming locked in an angled state. In the second instance, in 2008, there was approximately $2,300 damage to the right front of the Jeep. Chrysler has been contacted, twice in 2008, but stated that the problem was caused by the tire manufacturer, rather than by the wheels locking. I will be sending the two letters which I sent to Chrysler, along with a cover letter to your office, with photos showing the damage to the Jeep Liberty. You may decide whether the wheels locked or the 3 tires just destroyed themselves. Naturally, Chrysler corporation has only contacted me by phone, so there is no paper trail, save my few notes when speaking with some person I can barely understand. Thank you for your time! updated 02/19/10 updated 10/04/10

Ignition key will not turn once it is in the ignition. Because of this the car cannot be started. The gear shifter cannot be moved into neutral. The key, rocking the car, turning the steering wheel, working the gear shifter, changing the tilt of the steering column, have no affect on the situation. Will not release the steering column. There have been variations of this happening over the last year and after a few jiggles it worked just fine, but now the ignition will not turn.
