The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated he was informed of NHTSA investigation item number: PE10-031 (fuel system, gasoline: Delivery: Hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) which stated that the placement of the fuel tank and lack of adequate shielding made the fuel tank vulnerable to rupture or leakage if struck from the rear. The contact stated that the placement of his fuel tank was also inadequate and he was concerned of a potential fire erupting in the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 103,000. Updating 12/7/10
