I took my Jeep Liberty to several establishments to get opinions on what the ticking noise was coming from under my car hood. All repair shops said the ticking was coming from the engine. I took my car back to the dealer where I bought it. It was diagnosed as a bad piston. Imagine my dismay of this when I take meticulous care of my car and for this to happen at 31,000 miles! The dealer repair dept also stated the same as I was told by the other repair shops I took it to....there was oil sludge build up that looked as result of me waiting too long in between to get oil changes. To which I replied, "Not only do I get my oil changes faithfully every 3,000 miles, I had them all done here and you can check your computers as proof." They contacted Chrysler headquarters, who agreed a piston should not go bad at such low mileage and that they'd replace my engine. The cost of replacing the engine would have been $6,000. I had to pay $1,000 for shop materials and Chrysler covered the rest. It's still a hefty price to pay after paying $27,000. This happened awhile ago but I kept forgetting to log it and I just had to put this out there.
