When I tried to open the sliding sky roof the sticky (tape) part became unstuck from the sliding sky roof and stuck to the car's frame that caused the sliding sky roof to break off the track preventing it from opening and/or closing. If driven now it will blow off and be hazardous.

2008 Jeep Liberty le purchased 9/2008. Had to bring car back within the first week of purchase to have the strip at the front replaced. Since then the roof has always been noisy and lifts slightly at the front while moving. Recently, it has stopped closing properly. It will not close all the way and is buckled in several places leaving gaps in the roof for wind and rain to come in.

The sky slider on the 2008 Jeep Liberty is defective and Jeep will not do anything about it!!! this is ridiculous! it is going to cost $2,000 to get the thing fixed! I don't even open the thing and when it broke it was closed!!! I was driving in a storm and the wind caught it and broke it. Dealership is telling me I have to have a whole new system...tracks and all! this is crazy!!! I called Jeep for some help with this issue and they said there is nothing they can do, oh yes there is something they can do....recall this sky slider!!! I am going to continue to call them on a daily basis and keep asking for someone with more authority until I get my way on this and make them recall it so that we can all get our money back on this defective product!! I urge anyone else with this problem to do the same thing....if enough of us keep calling and complaining, maybe we can get some satisfaction.

I was driving down the road with my 9 year old grandson in the Jeep. It is always sounds very windy in the truck when driving. I was going about 25 miles an hour and the front of the top flew back. It scared the heck out of us. I was able to pull over and when I tried to shut the sky rider/retractable top it would not go. So I pulled it frontwards with my hands and drove very slow to my daughters. My son in law and my daughter were looking at it and we could not get it to work. So we put a buggy cord around it to hold it down until I could have to a place that could fix it.. I went to see him at 8 am the next morning and he said he has 2 of them in his shop right now and he also said he has many of them in his shop every week with the same problem he also told me that. Chrysler knows this is a huge problem with these Jeep that have the retractable tops/ sky rider. I also went on line and there are a lot of complaints in regards to these tops doing the same thing. I was told that it cost $2,100 dollars to fix. They need to replace the whole rack.I don't understand why they would use plastic parts for such a important thing on your car is a roof. He told me to call Chrysler.. well I called and spoke to a supervisor mack kelly at massey yardley he said the warranty is up. We went back and fourth about the top and I said to him, but you know this is a big problem so why would you not fix it" he said, "yup it is a big problem "but the warranty is up. I asked to speak with someone hire up and he said there is no one else hire then him. I also went on line and saw a bulletin recall and it states that they know this is a problem when they made this vehicle. I don't understand that they know it is a safety issue ?" we are very lucky no one got hurt or killed. They should fix the sky rider/retractable top being they know it is a safety problem!!!

The skyslider roof system has failed. The roof opened as normal but failed to close when button was closed. On investigation of the roof top I found the sky slider roof had come off the track. When I took the Jeep to the dealer they told me they could only replace the roof at a cost of $1500. I took the car home and was able to manually pull the roof back into place. This appears to be a design defect with the roof systems as there are thousands of complaints about wind noise and the skyslider failing and Chrysler Jeep ignoring the problem.

Sky slider roof which is an option for this vehicle has broken loose from the vehicle. This is the third failure of this convertible top feature. The top slides backward electrically on metal tracks and is pulled backwards using cables. The first failure of the roof was in 2010. At that time the roof would not close leaving it open and dangerous while driving. The vehicle was under mfg warranty and the entire cable and track was replaced. The second identical problem occurred in February 2011 resulting in repair and replacement of cables and track. Most recently, the cables have again broken leaving the top unable to close, only this time, the components have broken and while driving the top came loose and flew open causing more damage to the vehicle. The dealership where this vehicle has been repaired for this identical issue is aware of the ongoing problems with the sky slider. Chrysler/Jeep has been notified and a case has been opened, however, despite the problem being well-known they are not providing repair.

The sunroof leaks into the headliner causing mold and also affecting the electrical wires in the headliner. We have a 3 year old son and I believe that this could cause a threat to him as well as my wife who's drives the car. It has been brought to my attention that Jeep is aware of the problem with this model as well as other models that have the same problem, I am a ware that it is a used car but with the research that I have done its not the fact that it is used, it was a problem that was wrong when this 2008 Jeep had when it rolled off the line, and I'm conserened for my wife and sons safety as well as so many other dealing with this same problem!!!!

2008 Jeep Liberty was brought into dealership due to manufacturing weakness with the sky slider. One press of the close button and the whole back portion of the sky slider misaligned and would not close. The service rep. Stated that the whole assembly line was defaulted and would be very expensive to fix. Meanwhile, due to this manufacturing weakness, my Jeep was not drivable due to the sky slider sliding forward and backward suddenly and loudly every time the Jeep was driven over 35mph. The process in getting the Jeep repaired has taken over 3 weeks and the repairs are still not completed at the time this compliant was submitted. The Chrysler corporation is assisting with the repairs, however at this time there is no recall on this product.

2008 Jeep Liberty. Consumer states several problems with the vehicle the consumer stated each time he filled the gas tank, gasoline spilled out of the fill opening moments after the nozzle shut off was triggered. The spill occurred in a boiling type manner and the volume of the spill was significant. The consumer also stated, throughout the three years he has owned the vehicle, he had a problem with rain getting inside the vehicle. The point of entry appeared to be at the top of the rear lift gate. The water volume was significant and not only soaked the rear bed, but it also ran to the front of the vehicle and soaked the front passenger carpet. The problem has been fixed twice, with the report that some drains ports were clogged. The last repair involved some additional caulking.

2008 Jeep Liberty 4X4 skyslider roof does not seal back down when closed and causes severe wind noise at freeway speeds. I've taken it back to the dealer twice. The first time they just adjusted it, the second they ordered in a new modulator. Both times it solved the problem for a day or two and then back to the same problem. They have a serious problem with this sun roof. They have not sold alot of Jeep with the skyslider, so the complaints may be few, but I have talked to a couple owners and they have all had the same problem.

Within the interior of the Jeep there are stress points where the plastic was molded, and due to the cheap nature of the plastic where the stress points (plastic clip areas) are located there are discoloration spots forming in the plastic interior in several locations within the interior of the Jeep. This is unacceptable and a complete failure of quality control.
