Six or seven months ago my Dawn of Justice Edition Renegade started letting out a wet mop, smelly locker, mildew, moldy smell whenever I turn on the A/C or heating in the car. It eventually goes away but comes back and the smell is now within the fabric of the car seats. I've sprayed Lysol and used Febreze car fresheners and it just makes it worse. When I first detected this smell, I took the car back to the dealer and they said they couldn't smell anything. However, they changed my cabin filter, charged me $100. and sent me on my merry way. A week later the smell came back. I dealt with it for a few months and took it to another dealer. There they detected "something" so they performed some sort of a chemical treatment. The car was ok for about 2 weeks and back comes the smell. Two weeks ago I took it back to the last dealer. I left my card there all day and they're saying that they can't pin point the smell this time because of the air freshener. Now, I've reached out to Jeep customer care which they're telling me that they have a specialist who can instruct the dealer's service department on what to do...today is day 2 and nothing. Mind you I'm without a loaner. I always maintain my cars free of food and beverage and in mint condition. My last car was a 2010 Honda Civic Coupe EX and I never had a problem.. Whenever I would turn on the A/C-heating, it was like taking a breath of fresh air. I also park in and indoor private parking. Can someone please tell me, what in the world is causing that smell in my Renegade?

Every time I turn my air conditioner on, it smells like dirty socks. It doesn't last very long, but it is very aggravating.

Renegade 5.7L V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,300 miles

For the past month, my AC smells putrid, sometimes like dried urine, sometimes like an unknown chemical upon turning on. It happens at least 80% of the time and lasts for a short time, but the smell is rancid enough to make my stomach turn. Dealer insists they do not smell it (and everyone else who has been in my car with me HAS smelled it, on many occasions). Still unresolved, although they've had my car in three times for a variety of repairs.
