Death wobble? Not a recall, it should be because it is a life or death situation

problem #1

May 012015

Wrangler XL 3.6L

  • Manual transmission
  • 128,000 miles

While driving, I hit a pot hole which caused the vehicle to jerk wildly to the left. Had it brought to the dealership on a flat bed, by which time the problem corrected itself and mechanics had no clue. One week later same issue happened. This time I noticed that the vehicle would steer straight with the Jeep logo on the steering wheel oriented anywhere from the normal horizontal to about 70 degrees counter clockwise. I stopped and checked under the hood. I grabbed the intermediate shaft and was able to turn it back and forth approx. 45 degrees maybe 7-12 times at which time it tightened up and the steering went back to normal. I returned it to the dealership and they have now spent a week scratching their butts with no solution. Anyone else run into this?

Update from Jun 26, 2015: I replaced the steering stabilizer with a Skyjacker and the problem and the I have driven about 1000 miles with no problem, EAS and Brake assistant lights are out. Bump steer looks like it is gone
