On Aug 1, 2020 I had to have my 2012 Kia Optima towed to World Kia of Joliet because of the engine recall (that's a whole separate complaint from this one). They had my car for 2 weeks and I picked it up on 8/14/20. When I picked it up I specifically asked the service advisor if it was safe for me to drive it to Arkansas because I have a trip to visit my parents planned next week and I wanted to be sure. I was told it should be perfectly fine and expect no issues. On 8/18/20 I drove 580 miles to my parents in Arkansas. The trip was fine, uneventful & while I was there the car ran fine...until the Saturday I was due to drive home.

In the morning of 8/22/20 I started my car and it was a very rough start - it kept cranking & cranking before it finally turned over. The check engine light then came on. My dad hooked it up to a computer to read the code from the check engine light - P0087 low fuel rail pressure. I then called the local Kia dealership and arranged to drop it off that day. They called me back and said the fuel pump needed to be replaced and it would cost $1129.00 and they couldn't get the part to do it until the following Tuesday. I had to return to work on Monday, so my mom let me drive her car back home while mine stayed in the shop & my parents then picked it up when it was done. They called me when it was done & I told the service advisor about having the engine recall recently done & he said they should have replaced the fuel pump then.

I've spoken 4 other people who own the same vehicle - year/make/model - & they ALL had to have the fuel pump replaced within a week of the engine recall replacement. I then called World Kia of Joliet & told them this whole situation & that the other dealership service advisor told me they should have replaced it & that other people I know had to have the same thing done so they should have known I would require this & he shouldn't have told me to "go ahead and drive it 580 miles"...me being a single woman driving all that way by myself! I could've been stranded on a country road in the middle of nowhere by myself! The Arkansas dealership (Crain Kia of Conway) argued that the Joliet dealership did the engine recall so they should reimburse me; while World Kia of Joliet argued that Crain never should have charged me so they should reimburse me. I had to make multiple phone calls back & forth, explain the situation over & over, then I finally got the number to Corporate Customer Service & now I'm STILL WAITING for them to get back to me as to WHEN they will reimburse! I say WHEN because I'm not going to take no for an answer and I WILL get reimbursed if it's the last thing I do!

This whole experience has been a nightmare from start to finish (I told you, the engine recall is a whole separate complaint & that was just as ridiculous as this debacle). Today I got a notice in the mail that Kia is being sued in a class action law suit FOR EXACTLY THE PROBLEMS I'VE BEEN HAVING! LOL! I literally cannot wait to call Kia Corporate back and see what they have to say, now that I know this! I will update with the response as soon as I get one... TBC
