Optima Hybrid ES

  • Manual transmission
  • 114,000 miles

I was told by Ferguson Kia in Tulsa, OK that if my vehicle was a non-hybrid that my blown engine would be covered. They are very sorry that I never received the recall notice for the dash warning light for a swing arm. They offered me 500 dollars for a 15k dollar vehicle. How and why would Kia only cover Optimas that are not hybrid when the engine failure is due to Kia defects?

engine seized

The vehicle shut off on blvd going 55 mph, the car only has 72,000 miles. Kia says I need a new engine for $7000!!! All of the 204 non-hybrid engines were recalled because of this EXACT problem, the hybrids should be recalled as well.

Optima Hybrid LX 2.4L Theta Ii

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,963 miles

Bought the Optima used with less than 150 kilometers on it. I drove it for 20 days before it developed an engine knock and loss of power. No lights came on. Had it towed to the dealership and was told that the engine needs to be replaced and that Kia would not do anything about it. The exact engine in question had a class action law suit settled just less than a month ago. Kia extended a lifetime warranty to the powertrains from any Optima model with the 2.4L Theta ii from 2011-2019.

The service manager would not help at all and said that the engine seized due to a failed oil pump, well the oil pressure light never came on. The car has the engine that has been recalled but kia will do nothing about it. I will never buy a Kia again. Even when my mechanic priced out a used engine and offered to install it, Kia would not extend a warranty. These cars are known to fail prematurely. Buyer Beware.

Optima Hybrid EX 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 101,200 miles

My 2014 KIA optima hybrid had the engine seize 1200 miles over warranty after all service. KIA will not respond to complaints and has denied my concerns over the early demise of the engine and the close relation to other vehicles with recall and another recall and warranty work done right before warranty ended revealed no issues with the car. I have called them each day after they say they will respond and yet to have a call from them. Scouring social media this is very common issue. I simply want them to do what is right and repair for no cost, instead of their $11000 estimate of repair (criminal). They will not acknowledge that a vehicle engine should last far longer than 100000 miles and that only my constant maintenance may have kept it running that long.
