Sedona 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission

Kia is supposed to have this "wonderful" warranty for 10 years. Trick is there are hidden things about the Sedona that most mechanics don't know, so you end up with problems without even trying. For instance, to change the oil, there are TWO oil filters that need to be replaced. If your mechanic doesn't know this, you are dumping oil the minute you leave (hence, why Kia requires you do services at their main shop at killer prices.)

Long story short, I had my 40,000 mile service done at 48,000 miles and then started to experience some rattling in the engine around 68000. I checked the oil and it was low, but the oil light never came on nor did the check engine light. I added oil and then about an hour later, the whole engine just died. We towed it to Kia and they took one look at it and said they wouldn't honor the warranty because there was no history of us "having any regular service done at Kia" or at all (My bad... I did loose the paperwork with the oil changes between 48,000 and 68,000 miles!)

However, they were not going to bend on anything, provide us with any options nor give us any deals on fixing the van. We were going to have to hunt down an engine, have it shipped and pay the crazy fee to have Kia put it in. It was going to cost us more than what the van was worth to have the engine put in. What a waste of money! I will never buy Kia again and will tell everyone I know to stay away from purchasing any of their vehicles!
