Sorento LX 2.4L Gdi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 135,348 miles

I gave a 2012 KIA SORENTO, 2.4L GDI engine. It has high oil consumption ( 1 quart oil for every 250 miles), and lost compression in #4 cylinder, high carbon residue in valves, and it can't be driven! Good bodies but BAD engines. I thought Kia was better than this but apparently not. Kia is unreliable and undependable!

Sorento EX 2.4L I4

When driving to work and back (13 miles each way), I end up adding a quart every 2.5-3 weeks. Not so bad. If I take a trip up to Duluth MN, (living in central MN so a 2.5 hour drive) I'll change and add fresh oil and a new filter. Once I reach Duluth, it will reek of burning oil and it'll be a quart and a half low of what I filled it to.

Engine started using about 1 qt oil/1k miles...monitored it daily, and found out about the recalls shortly after. We took it to have the recall checked (the recall stated there could have been shrapnel in the engine from manufacturing) but they did not link "metal shrapnel" in the engine to our consumption problem.

Sorento 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,000 miles

Just made the last payment in Feb. now the car is burning oil. I have to check it every week to make sure of the oil level. I put two quarts in on a trip one before leaving and one after I arrived on a 325 mile trip. Came home and it is a 1/2 quart low now. Will have to add oil again later this weekend. It is not leaking it out- therefore it must be burning it. Calling the dealership tomorrow to complain. I was in receipt of an extended warranty in the mail because of a problem with the engine. I will be calling tomorrow.

Sorento LX 2.4L

Noticed vehicle was using a quart every 1000 to 1500 miles and had loud pinging sound coming from engine area after about 55,00 miles. There were no leaks or smoke from exhaust. Vehicle has always been maintained properly by dealer. Had dealer to check and after changing plugs and removing valve cover and oil pan said nothing could be found and everything extremely clean and well maintained. Took car back this past September after receiving warranty extension to check again. Keep for two weeks to do diagnostics by corporate only to tell me there was nothing they could do unless parts covered by warranty extension breaks. Car was checked before regular warranty expired. With me and my family traveling every other weekend for my daughters travel ball tournaments. I was very unhappy with how this was handle by Kia. Chose this vehicle over the Ford Explorer because of warranty and gas mileage. Will not make that mistake again.

Sorento LX 3.3

  • Automatic transmission
  • 94,000 miles

Started eating oil at 65k. I brought it up to the dealer at 70k oil change. Dealer rep told me that i did not chg the oil often enough and had 'sludged' the engine. After more digging and asking mechanics, blogs, etc - i found that there are small holes throughout the engine to move oil around. The sludged engine meant that the oil had become old or used or overused and turned to sludge blocking these holes. I started tracking the mileage/oil use and brought this info to the dealer. Then the dealer did an official oil consumption test. Everytime i needed oil, i had to get to the dealer and get it topped off. After many visits, they submitted the info to KIA corp and i waited for them to bless the fix. I had to have a camera put into the valve cover to take pics and then they also wanted to pull the valve cover. They were looking for sludge but did not find any. I had all my paperwork and changed my oil on avg of 5k miles. They took my car for two weeks, gave me a new short block, reused the head( after machining ) and all the valve gear. The car has run fine for 1k so far. Huge pain to get back to the dealer for all the 'proof' needed. Lucky to have all my maint done at this dealer up thru 60k. plus i had all paperwork from other maint. I think my dealer really helped me out. I am not a fan of KiA Corporate. They were difficult. Even under warranty the fix cost me about 400 dollars.

Sorento LS

After going to the dealership for any and ALL maintenance, they alerted me to low oil during a routine oil change. We jumped through hoops required by Kia for proper recording of oil levels... 3 separate tests and 2 "tape" testrs (to be sure I wasn't removing oil. Kia corporate closed my case immediately upon opening and had to reopen and escalate it 2-3 times while deciding on offering me NOTHING for my troubles. No options were given.
