I bought this car in August 2015 with 63,000 miles. It was perfect except for I had to replace the clutch. A year and a half later at around 92,000 miles it filled up more than usual one day. Usually it fills up around 12.5 gal or maybe 13 if its really low. But now it fills up with 14.5 to 15.5 gals which is more than the tank capacity.

The car stalls on me on low speeds especially when turning. It even stalls when I'm going above 40mph. It is scary! I looked under the car and gas was leaking from the gas tank vent hose onto my driveway. Thankfully it hasn't stalled in the middle of traffic.

I unplugged the vent hose to see if anything would overflow, but nothing did so I clamped it back on immediately. After fighting with clutch and the gas pedal at times to keep it from stalling while I'm driving the symptoms go away once the car is about 3/4 full. For about 2 months now it has been filling up more than usual, but it didn't stall out anymore until today which it filled up for a record of 15.5 gallons!.... I'm not going to reply on the gas pump nozzle to fill up my tank anymore. I will probably just fill it at 10 gallons at a time.

I have read that it is a defect with the gas tank or that I might have gotten fuel into the evap canister. I might have to spend around $450 on a new gas tank and evap canister if I install it myself.

Does anyone know for sure what it could be?
