Takata recall. I received a recall notice and was told 1) I should not have a passenger in the passenger seat of my car and 2) there is no replacement yet. I checked today(8/16/16) and there still is not a solution for this safety defect. This problem with takata airbags has been going on for several years and there is no solution. How can there be no solution. Have there been no safe airbags installed in the last several years" if there are safe airbags inflators available why can't they be installed on affected autos. I bought a car to Transport my wife and grandkids. And I can not use it because of foot dragging by both takata and Toyota. How much longer must I wait"

Takata recall. We received a recall notice via mail last week regarding the passenger side airbag. NHTSA recall no. 16V-340. In the "important update" included with the recall notice were several questions and answers. Question 8 "my vehicle is involved in this safety recall but the remedy is not yet available. Will Lexus provide a loner vehicle until the remedy is available". the answer provides that "[T]O minimize risk, Lexus recommends that no passengers sit in the front passenger seat. If this recommendation is not feasible for the customer's personal or business needs, alternative transportation made be made available." Since receiving the recall notice, I have communicated with our local dealer, herrin-gear Lexus to advise that this recommendation is not feasible and for alternate transportation. The dealer referred me to the manufacturer. The telephone number provided for the manufacturer is not being answered and all other means attempted to communicate in this regard have not been successful. Request is made for assistance communicating with the manufacturer and that your Agency require that the recall occur immediately and without delay or alternatively that the manufacturer be compelled to provide alternate transportation.

2009 Lexus ES 350. Consumer writes in regards to passenger side air bag design issues. * smd the consumer stated the passenger air bag sensor, did not recognize her sitting in the seat. Over the years, the dealership has checked the sensor, calibrated the sensor, replaced the front passenger seat and sensor assembly and on the most recent visit, a Lexus engineer was called in to evaluate the problem. The consumer was informed the sensor was calibrated for a 70 pound load; however, due to a flaw in the passenger air bag system for this model year, it did no consistently sense a passenger weighing slightly above 100 pounds. The dealer stated they could not adjust the sensor below the 70 pound calibration point, or repair the problem in any other way.
