When driving at highway speeds for more than 10 minutes the steering becomes increasingly stiff until it starts locking the wheel in position. It takes quite a bit of force to get it to unlock and then whatever new position it's in it will lock that new position. It will lock in a straight line or in a turn so I could let go of the wheel and it will keep turning. This leads to a potentially dangerous ping ponging back and forth until I get it to lock in a position that matches the road to stay in my lane. If I slow down to below 40mph it resets back to a normal steering feel until I speed up again. The alignment and wheel balance are both good. The suspension components are not warn out to cause a change in alignment. The car does not have lane keep assist or anything that might do that on purpose. It seems quite a few other people are having this same issue and dealerships do not seem to know what it is or how to fix it. Some people have had success with replacing the steering rack and associated control unit. No warning lamps or messages appear when this happens and the steering feels perfect at lower speeds and at higher speeds for short durations. This is only a problem when I drive on the highway for an extended period. Some people think it is heat related but it happens to me in the winter as well.

The contact owns a 2013 Lexus Gs 350. The contact noticed an intermittent fuel leak in the rear of the vehicle. In addition, the steering wheel veered to the left, and the suspension was unstable. While operating the steering wheel, the vehicle hesitated and suddenly braked without warning. The dealer (Lexus santa monica, 1501 santa monica blvd, santa monica, ca 90404, (424) 231-6601) stated that the injector seals needed to be inspected; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer had not issued a recall for the fuel system. A tsb was issued on January 16, 2018 (L-tt-0237-18), which affected 150 products, 1 brake recall, 1 steering recall, 5 steering tsbs, and 1 tsb for the suspension. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was not available.

As the car was pulling out of the driving spot and making its way, severe black ice was preventing control. The car seemed to have activated some anti-skidding mechanism. The car was stopped then. From a resting, zero speed position, the car slid on black ice about a foot or less and was stopped by a side impact between the right wheel and the curb. The car was then driven back a few feet to its parking spot and parked because of weather conditions. Upon clearing and driving again, something wrong seemed to have happened to the steering. The car was driven slowly and carefully to the dealer who determined that there was damage to the tie rods (bending) and the steering column, damage in excess of $5,200. This is completely unjustified by the event and points to a dangerous flaw in the car - either design or material. An inspector pulled the crash data from the car but Lexus is not available to explain it to us, indicating it may take 30 days for their analysis. In the meantime, the Lexus dealer needs his loaner car back. Most importantly, this car endangers lives and the model should be immediately pulled out of circulation. Lexus is not being appropriately responsive.
