LS LSE 3.9L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 124,000 miles

My car started to overhear but only when stuck in traffic. The city I live in has a cronic traffic problem and there is no way around it. Upon my inspection of the car when I was testing it on the weekends, I discovered a leak on the bottom of the coolant overflow bottle. This part sells for about $60 but when you drain the cooling system, you will find other major components of the cooling system are also plastic and the become brittle at about 110,000 miles.

I ended up spending about $300 for the major cooling components as they are dealer-only parts. The biggest hassle is having to order the parts and wait about a week for them to arrive along with the high cost of PLASTIC PARTS! Once you have all the major parts, the job can be done in two afternoons.

I did discover after the fact that you can find metal/aluminum parts for SOME of the components from aftermarket vendors.

Lincoln really messed up with this design. Every American car on this planet that is worth the rubber is sits on uses a belt driven cooling fan. Why on earth did they use hydraulics is beyond me. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't near impossible to replace. What a piece of crap.
