Bought the Lincoln MKZ Hybrid early May 2014. MPG claimed in ads and on sticker was 45 city, 45 highway, 45 combined. In July we got a letter from Ford Motor Co that they settled with EPA on 38 MPG combined and sent us a check for the difference in driving cost for five years.
Then in April or May of 2015 we noticed that even though our driving habits had not changed, nor the gasoline retailers we used, our MPG has dropped to the 32 -34 mpg range for the same kinds of driving. We began monitoring the MPG and now it is in the 28-32 mpg range. It just seems to be going down.
We have had this car into the Lincoln dealer two or three times for this complaint and each time they tell us that nothing shows up on their computer so there is nothing they can do. They claim they have also contacted the FoMoCo engineering department and the engineers claim they know of no problems.
We have friends who have a leased 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid with the same drive train and they noticed the very same thing. Mileage was good about the first year then it dropped off just like ours did. They also live in Florida.
Oddly, when my MKZ give a false reading on my back up sensor for cross traffic that does not exist, the owner's manual says that the car's computer erases that false reading when you turn the engine off and then back on. Could it be that the reason the service technicians can't find a problem is that the car's computer erases anything that might cause Ford a recall or expensive repair? Just asking.
