CX-5

  • Automatic transmission

Had the same issue with our 2013 Mazda CX-5 AWD. The engine light came on, took it to a Mazda dealer to have it checked out. The code was P011A and they had the car in their shop for five days. They recommended to replace the two coolant sensors and said it should correct the issue. Per their suggestion it seem to be a quick and easy fix, so I went ahead and had the work done which costed me about $600.

On the fifth day I went back to pickup the car to drive home the engine light with the same error code came back. I was very frustrated with the amount of time it took and the time I had wasted going back and fourth, so they had their top level technician came out to explain the issue. The technician very nice and helpful, said they had a similar car with the exact same issue two month ago and if my car was reported to him he would have taken another rout by replacing the heater core instead. So since they have done the work before, I ask for an estimated cost for the heater core replacement and they were not able to provide the quote right away, but since this was a missed diagnostic they will work something out for me and said not to worry. The car was in the shop now for 8 days.

They responded back with a quote for the heater core replacement with the $600 discounts removed but I would still need to pay another $1800 more if I want it fix. I thought it over what the technician explain and was shock on the discount, it was ridiculous high. I refuse to pay more and refuse to take the car home as it has not been resolved.

I went home to do some research and find out others are reporting the same issue after the car is driven under 50k mile. So this tell me it’s possible a design flaw or defect from the start and the heater core replacement is just temporary. Im surprised it’s not a recall and the manufacturer refuse cover it. The heater core are rarely needs replacement.

I then meet up with their director/manager of the branch and explain my safety concerns, frustrations and finding and they said the only thing they can do for me now is a full refund or pay them another discounted quote of around $1600 if I want it fixed.
