CX-5 GT 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

The CMU failure renders the Infotainment System worthless! No navigation, no radio (other than the station it was tuned to at the time of failure), no bluetooth, and a sporadic backup camera. This is a common issue when researched on the internet. This is a colossal screw-up by Mazda and it should be a recall. The display screen flashes as it reboots every 30 seconds! This is a safety issue and is blindingly distracting when driving at night.

Update from Jan 9, 2020: So this is new... car was due for an oil change, so dash reminder came on. Had oil changed at dealer, but due to the bad CMU, the reminder cannot be reset and now prevents used of, MPG monitoring, miles remaining before empty, and other travel info. So annoying.

Update from Jan 20, 2020: Received a call from the Mazda Dealer. They said Mazda agreed to cover the CMU under warranty even though the warranty had expired (currently 44,700 miles). Dealer replace Mazda Connect/CMU. I paid a $33 deductible.

CX-5 Grand Touring FWD 2.5L Dohc 4-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,500 miles

The Infotainment system on the 2016 Mazda CX-5 fails when the weather changes and it gets cold outside. The problem has increased more frequently this winter. I would also like to note that my car is kept in a garage. It wants to reboot over and over, so if you are using the NAV system, you are screwed. You also can't use the phone or radio during this time. I've brought this to the attention of the dealership for years with no luck on fixing the issue. Frustrated!

CX-5 Gran Touring

The infotainment system does not work. It rotates trying to reboot but just can't make it. I tried removing SD card but it still goes through the rounds of trying to reboot. There are no updates for SD card. I took to a Mazda shop and was told the CMU needed repair, but the part was on backorder indefinitely. So I can't use the radio, phone, navigation, etc.

CX-5 GT

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

The infotainment system keeps rebooting and is mostly just showing a blank screen or the Mazda logo. The radio is stuck on the same station. Many features are now not working including radio, navigation, or settings.

The strangest thing is what the Mazda dealer told me when I called. Apparently many people with 2016 Mazda cx-5 and 2016 Mazda 3s have been calling recently with the same problem. They do not currently know the solution. One possible solution they said was to replace the CMU chip for $1300, but it is on backorder, and they recommended we wait for Mazda to finish investigating.

It has been a few days, but I will update if we get a resolution.

Update from Aug 29, 2019: The dealer now wants 1600 for a new CMU chip which they say should fix the problem. I called Mazda corporate and they suggested that the dealer can submit some paperwork to "after warranty assistance" and then Mazda will consider whether to help out with the cost.

CX-5 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

This car is slightly over 2 years old and to have no radio, CD player, GPS is already a pain. But the unit is in continuous boot up mode which at night is very distracting.
