CX-9 Touring 2.5t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

Our 2016 Mazda CX-9 began shifting roughly between 2nd and 3rd gears. Affected both upshifts and downshifts. I thought a transmission service (drain and replace fluid and filter) might remedy the problem, so I was somewhat surprised when the dealership said it needed a new transmission. Our aftermarket 3rd party warranty covered a "used" transmission replacement (we received one with 57K miles on it) and the servicing dealer had to replace the seals on the transmission before they would put it in.

We are still not sure whether the warranty will cover the replacement of the seals, but they should. Anyway, I had a $100 deductible so that is all I am expecting to pay for this repair. Vehicle went into the shop on 11/08/2022 and we still do not have the car back (it is 1/08/2023). Granted, they had to yank the engine to replace the head as well and there was a lot of back and forth with the warranty company (they were not very good at responding) and with Mazda corporate on the head repair, so it all took awhile.
