MAZDA3 S Grand Touring 2.5L I4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 10,000 miles

The issue began at about 5000 miles and was addressed at the first scheduled service. When pulling in or out of a tight space, and turning the wheel to near lock (not to the bumpstops!) there is a "pop" noise from the front suspension. Dealers have replaced struts, bushings, control arms and a torqued and re-torqued any number of bolts and fittings. Noise still present. At 45,000 miles, I have given up. On this noise and on Mazda. 4 dealers, 8 visits to address the issue. Dealers more interested in selling unnecessary services instead of fixing the problems. I now have 80,000 miles and the noise is still present. Here is a summary of the attempts to fix the issue.

Clunk or pop noise when turning sharply left at very low speed, like pulling into/out of parking spot. Found the front left Lower Control Arm bushing bracket had shifted. Removed all 4 front LCA bushing bolts and frame. Re-centered the brackets, applied thread-locker and torqued to spec. The noise is still present, however with much less frequency and severity. This repair has been attempted 7-8 times (I have lost count).

Repaired work done at Kerry Mazda in Florence, KY - Stabilizer bar bushings were installed incorrectly, shock mounts installed incorrectly, and lower control arms were left loose after last repair. Shock mounts and bushings were replaced and the control arms were tightened to spec. This repair was performed at Jake Sweeney Mazda in Springdale, OH.

Popping noise from drivers side when reversing and turning sharply to the right. Per TSB 02-010/16 replaced bump stop, coil spring protector, Nut, and bushing. This did not fix problem. Will have to return to dealer.
