I have a 2006 Mazda 6 with a VIN in the recall range, except I live in Michigan so it is not recalled. My inflator will continue to degrade, at a slower rate than those in high humid areas, but it will eventually get to the point where it will have taken in enough moisture to disassemble when deployed. I want this taken care of before it blows up. The supplier has demonstrated an unwillingness to acknowledge it has a problem. No one seems to be concerned that a supplemental safety device can do more harm than good. Ask those involved in the industry and you will get a common response that "death" is not an acceptable failure effect. There is probably a pretty [xxx] good reason no other airbag inflator manufacturer uses ammonium nitrate in their propellant formulations. Inflators leak. Always do and always will. You cannot keep the moisture out indefinately. And I definately do not want to wait until more innocents are killed or maimed by these devices before mine too is recalled.
