Just replaced passenger headlight a couple weeks ago, you have to take the front tire off and remove the wheelwell cover.....just to get access to the light, and the frigging clip that holds the light in place is the biggest pain in the ass clip I have ever had to "clip" into place.....

The head lights on my 2010 Mazda6 burn out continuously. I have had them replaced at the local car fix it spot where they do a nice job. I have recently called the dealer to ask if there have been other reports of similar complaints and I was told that I am the only Mazda6 owner in the entire world that this is happening to. Well, I wasn't told that in so many words, but I was lead to believe this. Apparently I am not holding my mouth right when I turn on the lights leading them to blow out or I am turning them on at night when they get a little tired so they turn off and forget to come back on. Who knows? The dealership told me I will need to get a COMPLETE inspection of the lighting system, replace the wires AND I need to take my car to some place other than my local fix it spot because "you never know what they may be doing" to my car. I need the genuine Mazda6 head lights I am told. Even though the original genuine Mazda6 head lights burned out in less than a year and each one within a month of the other. Other than this nagging problem I love the car. I've decided if it continues I am getting a new Elantra.

I've owned this car for about a year and a half. The bulbs burned out after about six months, within a couple weeks of each other. No biggie, I replaced them myself with bulbs from auto parts store. One year later they burned out again. I do keep my lights on most of the time while driving, but bulbs should last longer. I only drive about 12,000 miles per year.
The fix is not that difficult, especially the second time, although it is a little time consuming. The tire does NOT need to be removed as some have mentioned. Do turn the wheel out to give you more room to work. There are several plastic screws that need to be removed so the wheel cover can be pulled down to provide access to the headlight. Be careful removing the screws as they are plastic and will break if not handled with care. Several screws under the front bumper also have to be removed to loosen the wheel cover. The spring loaded latch holding the bulb in place is a little tricky to unlatch, but is manageable with patience. I am not mechanically inclined so this fix is doable for the average driver and probably saves quite a bit of cash compared to having the dealer take care of it.
