Tribute 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 83,000 miles

I bought the car used with 80,000 "low miles" for my daughter to get to work and back two months ago. Never having a Mazda before I assumed that the engine was Japanese and should last my daughter a long time. Three weeks ago I noticed the oil was low, so I topped it off. Two weeks ago the same thing happened, driveway was clean and car was not blowing blue smoke either, topped it off again. I was dumbfounded where the oil was going just like the rest of complaints here. Needless to say we had a family crisis outside of town, so she started the car and heard loud noises coming from the engine.

She called me to tell me about the noises so I instructed her to take my wife's car instead. After our return I verified the problem knock from the engine. I had it towed and was told the engine was shot. Apparently an internal component had failed which was causing the oil to disappear. It wound up being a $2700 repair bill, right before the holidays to boot.

If Ford was aware of this problem but neglected to do a recall they should be liable. I will entertain joining a class action lawsuit. I realize Mazda/Ford has lots of highly paid attorneys but hey automakers have been known to loose cases in the past also.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 63,000 miles

The engine just died. It was taken care of on a regular basis by a very reputable shop. It only had 63,000 miles and stopped working. The solution is to replace the entire engine. Of course there is no assistance from Mazda. What a horrible lemon the Mazda engine turned out to be. Please consider this post prior to purchasing a Mazda vehicle. It is not worth the $$$.
