There is a large number of noisy customers (enough to start a class action lawsuit against Mercedes Benz). In an article published in this forum, it quoted that MB has extended the warranty coverage for this problem for 15 years beyond the normal period. This statement allowed the NHTSA to state that since MB is offering this coverage there is no basis for a recall for this problem. Does this smell or what?!
I have checked the MB web site and there is a numbered recall for this problem, but when you call MB of North America it does not exist.
