Grand Marquis 4.6 W

  • Automatic transmission
  • 123,000 miles

I've replaced the Cats, o2 sensors, fuel pump/filter/basket. Had the transmission serviced, flushed the cooling system. ALL based on mechanic test outputs according to check engine diagnostics.

My 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis, with the 4.6 W motor STILL chokes when the gas pedal is depressed. It starts easily, but idles rough, and when coming to a stop acts like it's going to stall. I can attain acceleration gradually, but only with it acting as if it's out of time (used in comparison to later engines with the old points, plugs and condensers.).

Do you know of a possible source for this to be happening? Does this particular triton motor have a "fuel injector sychronizer" (and where it might be located), or might it be timing chain and gears?
