Had power steering torque sensor replaced in 2017 and now have to replace it again. I believe Ford should be paying for replacements or start making better parts that last longer than 3 years.

Update from Sep 1, 2021: Entire steering column had to be replaced.

My power steering goes in and out. I never know when I start my car if I will have power steering. Ford recalled my car for this problem 2 years ago and updated computer software. Never had a problem at that time. However now it is every day. I have had to cancel appointments because I can not parallel park this SUV with no steering. I have contacted Ford and they are saying they did their part. However, upon research many people complaining of losing power steering on and off and torque sensor and or the entire power steering needs to be replaced probably at a cost of $2000 plus fee for rental car. I work two jobs and I cannot afford to fix this. I have had two close calls of accidents because of inability to properly steer the car. This is a Ford problem that they are denying. Please anyone can help. Need this fixed ASAP.

Power steering locks up on the 2009 Mercury Mariner. There was an issue with steering in 2015 to go to dealer and update software. This was done in 2015. The extended warranty hat I purchased ended in Sept of 2016.

2-3 months later steering locks up, and they said there is no recall and anything needs work, have to pay for it.

I have a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The power steering just stops working while you are driving. I reported the problem to the NTSB. Apparently a lot of people have this issue because a recall was issued. I took my vehicle into the shop they said they fixed it (2015) but absolutely nothing changed. I still have the same issue. I took my vehicle back May 2016 and they refused to look at it and they said if it needs any repair I would have to pay for it.

I was at an intersection and went to turn left when the power steering went out - it just froze. I panicked and pulled the wheel as hard as I could to the left and barely contained it on the road. I heard a "click" and the power steering returned for a couple of minutes. Another "click" and loss of power steering. Another "click" and the power steering returned. Luckily, this happened at 10:30 pm, and there were no other cars around. Plus, I lived less then 2 miles away. I went about 20 mph the rest of the way home. Had this happened during the day, I would have been involved in a crash.

The car comes with an electric power assist steering that can fail at any time while driving. Steering still works but wife was unable to steer the vehicle resulting in a near crash.
