The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated when the passenger seat was occupied with a person weighing between 120 and 135 pounds, the air bag sensor would not detect the passenger and would not engage. The dealer advised that they were aware of the failure but could not provide a remedy for the failure. The contact was concerned with the air bag not deploying in the event of a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure was 6,500 updated 10/0810 the dealer replaced the passenger seat sensor. However, the problem continued. Ford stated the system was working as designed. Passengers weighing under 135 lbs may not be recognized by the air bag system. Updated 10/12/10
