Warning light "Service Power Steering Soon" one day & a few miles later on the next day "Service Power Steering Now". Took to local Ford dealer who reset something to make PS return until the next time I started the car, when it was out again. They said it was from my tires being so worn. I asked Lincoln dealer from which I'd bought the car & they'd never heard of that reason. Since they're an hour away & tires do need replacing, I'm going to do that first & if no change will update this complaint.

So my 2010 Mercury Milan steering quit working the first time in September 2019. It cost me 416.00 to have it towed to my home town where I live, then Huff Ford charged me near 100.00 to reset the steering. Then it stopped working again on February 14th 2021! Again Huff said it wasn't covered under recall, although the newer Mercury Milan steering is covered.

The car is not drivable. I had to leave it where it stopped working. I cannot afford over 2000.00 to fix that issue when it should have been covered in the recall as well, and I have read these complaints about this issue on the 2010 Mercury Milans - there are numerous complaints. I have always liked Ford products but I won't buy another one. It's pretty messed up - Mercury knows this year's Milan has the same problem as the 2011 and didn't include them in the recall.

The power steering just stopped. I am unable to move my car. Right now I had to rent a car until I figure out what to do. There are many many complaints out on the internet with almost the same situation. I am going to attach my communication with Ford Motor Company

There are many factors that determine which vehicles will be apart of a recall such as the build date and assembly plant. We cannot determine why the 2010 Milan was not included in this recall here in the Customer Relationship Center. Ford does have a very specific process to when recalls are announced. I was not having any issues until I took my car to the dealership where I bought it to get the oil changed and tires rotated as I have done on a regular basis. As I was leaving the parking lot, it began pulling to the right. It had never done this before. I assumed it was due to them adding air to some of the tires. Within a few days, I was approximately 75 miles from home when the "service power steering now" message appeared. I turned the car off then restarted it. At that point I had no power steering. I am thankful that I was not driving in heaving traffic and that I was not involved in a serious accident. This problem is clearly a safety issue. As I understand (from research), this is also a problem with the 2011 Mercury Milan. Amazingly, the newer model uses the exact same power steering components as the 2010 model. However, at this time, Ford has not issued a recall on the 2010. This is nothing short of ridiculous. Again, after researching the price for repairing this issue is anywhere from $1,200 - $2,100. The power steering defect has been documented since early 2015. When I bought my 2010 Mercury Milan - I was not advised that there was a possible defect on this vehicle. I firmly believe that Ford is discriminating against 2010 owners, as the defect is exactly the same on both models.

Drove to the store one day, the steering felt a little strange. Parked the car, went into the store. Came out of the store and the power steering was totally gone. Could hardly get out of the parking space. The "Service Power Steering Now" message came up. Cost $2100 to fix and I had no choice, I need this car and am still making payments on it. I am so sorry I purchased this vehicle, this isn't the first issue I've had with it where there was a recall on others of the same model year or 1 year newer yet my car was not covered for the same issues. It has 78,000 miles.

Ford knows that the 2010 Milan has faulty power steering assist.They have known it for a long time now. They know it freezes up when people are driving and it eventually stops working at all.... like on my car!

Government is researching the matter on the 2010 Fusion which is same thing as a 2010 Mercury Milan.

They need to recall and fix this problem. The cost out of my pocket would be $1,400 to fix.

I can't afford that and the car is just sitting in my driveway and can't be driven. I am making payments on a car I can't drive. Hopefully the recall will happen on the 2010 Mercury Milans and the Ford Fusions!

Picked up the car from my wife at her job. In the parking lot, I started the car but when I went to turn, the steering wheel locked up and I got a notification on the dash that said "Power Steering Assist Fault." Took it to Ford and they charged $100 just to diagnose and then said it would be $2,000.00 to fix. I've done a bit of research and it seems like a lot of people are having this problem. I thought Ford was a reliable company but it seems like they just want to make extra money and are not concerned about the safety of their drivers.

This just happened for no real reason, I was driving and fortunately not in a turn. I've done a lot of research and it seems Ford is using this as a way to make big money. There is a flaw in the electric steering system that will cause it to lock out and you can't get it cleared without taking it to the dealer. To troubleshoot the problem seems to cost from 100.00 to what ever higher amount they decide they want. It seems that in most cases they say the steering needs replaced and charge 2000.00, I guess that seems like a good round number for them.

The power steering suddenly went out. The advance track warning came on and stated service power steering now light came on. Warning signals including bells. I went to my local dealer and they have reset the computer several times, but to no avail.The power steering went back out each time. The problem I am having is that other Milan 2011 and Ford Focus 2010 and 2011 are having the same issue and is being covered by the recall but not Milan 2010 is ridiculous.

Ford should be ashamed of themselves. I have been a loyal Ford customer for over 15 years.My Ford Taurus was one of the best vehicles I ever owned and never had many problems.That was the reason I went back to Ford.

I was driving my son to school this morning and I receiving dummy warnings to service advancetrac and service power steering soon. I stopped my car and turned it off for a few minutes like the manual says to do only to turn my car back on with warning beeps to "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW". I lost all power steering and it was as if the steering locked up. Luckily I have roadside assistance and was able to get my car towed to my local dealership. However I received the dreaded phone call stating the power steering rack needs replaced and it is going to cost me $1,764.00. I've called Ford in hopes that there is a recall in the works for 2010 Milan's but there isn't and all she could do was document my complaint. Thank you Ford for ruining Christmas, because what single mom had a random $1,754.00 sitting around on an insane car repair? So very disappointed.

The power steering gear issue is not covered under any current recall, and there are no plans for it be covered even though the similar 2011-2013 Ford Fusions and 2011 Mercury Milan were covered. The 2010 are not covered based on the fact they were manufactured elsewhere. They want you to pay $99 to a dealer to spend the day on it running a diagnostic test on it to see if the issue is related to the recall. Then from there you have to file with Ford for them to consider to cover the repair under the recall. If not, you are out the money even though others have the same exact issue paid for. I am a single mom fighting cancer. Chemo costs over $11,000 a month. When I talked to the first representative from Ford she was so understanding and gave me the impression that Ford cares about their car owners. She understood how I felt. She said she would put the claim to the recall department right away and to hope for good news. Nope, Ford said NO not our problem. So the next representative from Ford submitted a claim for hardship to help in paying for some of the repairs. That customer service rep, Cynthia Mougey, said Ford doesn't and won't help under any circumstances. Obviously they don't care about returning customers. When I called my local Ford Dealership, North Star Ford they reduced the $2,100 bill down to $1,600. Corporate wouldn't do anything! How sad corporate Ford doesn't care about their customers!

If this was an unknown issue with these cars I would find a way to pay, but since this is a known issue it is unfair that I have to jump through these hoops when others don't for the same exact issue. This wouldn't be a problem but I've work with warranty and recall and know how the process works. It is a simple and easy process where I shouldn't even be involved except to drop my car off and pick it up and the dealer takes 5 mins to send paper work in and they wait for their check.
