Mountaineer Premire V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

Ford didn't make the transmission, they bought from overseas. The major problem is the servo pistons in this transmission are all aluminum boar (no steel or brass sleeves) just steel rubbing on magnesium aluminum dose not last very long might as well be plastic and paper mache. also the solenoid pack in this trannie. The electrical connections to it from the power train computer have been under sized for the electrical current needed to run them and are also designed in a way that the aluminum wear that gets in trannie fluid can get in solenoid pack and short connections of solenoid pack out that also burns connecting pins into on harness that plugs into solenoid pack in trannie.

By them hiring or contracting out the production of this trannie they don't have any liability for this transmission and this is why most people are buying foreign made cars. Ford, if you continue assembling autos and not standing buy a product you should have tested, then we will buy Toyota, Suzuki or Dodge and you will slowly be out of business.Toyota has made mistakes but they have done recalls to correct their problems. Ford you will not admit you made a mistake buy purchasing a junk transmission and installing in your foreign made assembled in America car, you are an American company you would think you would want to protect your American consumer, but I guess not!

Mountaineer V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

I REALLY LIKE MY MOUNTAINEER. THE ONLY PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN THE TRANSMISSION RUMBLING AND GRINDING BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD OR 4TH AND 5TH GEAR. ALSO I HAVE HAD THE CRACKING OF THE REAR DOOR PANEL. I HATE TO COMPLAIN, BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A FORD/MERCURY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE FIXED. I AM GOING TO A TRANSMISSION PLACE TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CHECKED OUT TOMORROW.

Its not the best to be driving down the street & you can't get it into gear...you got your pedal to the metal & the gear is not kicking in....I'm just waiting for someone to hit me in the rear...When you're driving it goes slow & then jolts your back & then kicks in...something isn't right???
