Cooper Clubman S 1.6L Inline 4

  • Manual transmission
  • 37,000 miles

My 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman began presenting passenger airbag and seat belt warning tones and lights. This problem began as an intermittent occurrence. All of the warnings, including overhead, dash and computer window are constantly eliminated at this point. Although this is annoying, it is also a gross safety issue as the passenger side is unprotected in a crash. To date no recalls of this model relative to airbag/seat belt have been issued. I have noted that similar complaints continue to mount without resolution.

Dealer repair costs range from $1,000 -$1,500. The suspected faulty part is the "Airbag Mat Sensor". This product is only available via dealer (BMW/Mini) and is back ordered from the German manufacture. It is my opinion that this is worthy of recall consideration and that class action my be required. If anyone has found a manufacturer wide solution to this defect, please post same on this site.
