The contact owns a 1995 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the accelerator pedal detached from the firewall. The contact was able to successfully stop the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to an independent repair shop but they did not diagnose or repair the failure. If the gas peddle was pressed down firmly when this happens, braking has little effect on controlling the vehicle. Tapping the gas pedal does not seem to correct the issue as it occurs. After shifting the vehicle into neutral (automatic transmission), the acceleration seems to stop within one second.

I feel this is more of a safety hazard, than a wear and tear item. The vehicle has low mileage and has been regularly serviced at the dealership. The servicing dealership was not the dealership that the vehicle was purchased at. The servicing dealer was reed Nissan (orlando fl) although I am very pleased with the service they provide.
