The volume control just wouldn't adjust right...it either made sound way loud, or bring it down to "mute" level, and it would take a while playing with it for a compromised level. So, being the electronic tech guy, I decided to remove the whole radio and fix the problem. I found out the volume control was a rotary decoder (looked like an old fashion potentiometer but with a logical output instead). After removing the pcb from the bezel, I had to flip aside four tabs on the metal body of the volume control and then boala!: the contacts were exposed (two rouns track combs and several contacts around the round flat surface). I got some rubbying alcohol and few Q-tips, carefully cleaned all contacts. after reassemblying the volune control, and reinstalling the radio: it worked like a champ!!and we are happy to have saved some bucks!
