problem #1

Oct 292014

Altima SL 25

  • CVT transmission
  • 22,000 miles

Like so many other Nissan Altima owners have found out before me, I had the same starting problems, press the foot brake down, hit the start button and NOTHING HAPPENS! So my first conclusion was it must be a weak or dead battery. Purchased a new battery and installed it, and for good measure I replaced the NGK Lazer Iridium spark plugs. The car runs well for a few days, and I'm as happy as a pig in $h1t. I fixed the problem. Then the same non starting happens again! But I need the car to get to work! After messing around under the bonnet, and ready to give up, it starts up! I dash round to my Nissan dealer and explain the symptoms to the service advisor. He's not heard of this type of problem before! Yeah right! It needs a full diagnostic to work out the problem, and there was no master tech on site, they had all gone for the evening. Amazing. The following morning, a call from the service tech. It was the Brake Switch and harness that required replacing. Total cost $442.00.
