2008 Nissan Altima: Noticed this year a shiny gleam on the dashboard. This windshield gets hazy. The dashboard is melting, it is sticking and shiny. When a fingernail is pressed, it will actually sink into the dashboard and leave a mark. The dashboard cannot take any cleaning or friction. When the dashboard is touched it leaves fingers sticky. Became more of an issue this year now that I have a grandchild. MY other vehicle is a mini cooper 2 door which is not feasible to hold a car seat and baby. I now have the carseat in the Nissan and now it has become more of a problem because i cannot use the other car as alternative transportation when I have my grandchild. It is very difficult to drive with the glare it causes, and it is a safety issue not only for me but for others. When the sun is out and it is hot (this summer) it is worst and causes the windshield to get hazy. Not sure if it is leaking chemicals as the dashboard is now soft, shiny and cannot be removed by cleaning. The glare is very dangerous and difficult to drive under the conditions. Thank You, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I own a 2008 Nissan Altima (VIN# [xxx]). I have to two questions for you: 1) why has there not been a recall on the dashboards towards their stickiness & melting? especially since Toyota recalled theirs because of that. 2) why has there not been a recall on the TPMS? it stays on all the time. With it on all the time, how are supposed to tell when the air is low. If I turn it off, it won't come back on even when the tires are low. If I replace one, I have to replace all of them. Ntb has even tried putting nitrogen in the tires. But that did not work. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

A few months ago I noticed the dashboard of my 2008 Altima was melting especially around the air vents. There's also a burn smell coming from the shiny area. It's becoming hard to see during the day due to glare from the shiny area. Also I did notice my ac system was making strange noises and would shut off the engine when I turned it on. Sometimes it blows warm air and has completely died recently. I took it to a mechanic who mentioned that he's never seen anything like a melting dashboard in his 20+ years of repairing cars. He ran a dye test on the ac and strangely there was no freon leak. He had to drain all the freon so that I can't have an accident when the engine shuts off in case I tried to start the ac. I will have to spend $1000 just for the ac alone..... mechanic recommended I consult Nissan regarding the melting dashboard.

My 2008 Nissan Altima 2.5 S started showing a residue on front dash about 2 years ago. It has worsened to point where a glare from sunlight reflection disrupts field of vision while driving. I've seen numerous other complaints about the dashboard melting in warmer climates with higher quantity of sunlight. I've researched some of the reasons why and it appears it is due to lower grade formulation of plastic used in this model as well as other manufacturers.
