Altima 2.5S 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 182,000 miles

I have a 2008 Altima 2.5S that I bought from a guy at work. I knew the transmission was the problem when I bought it. I work on cars as a hobby. It took me about 5 hours to get the transmission out of the car. I disassembled the transmission. Of course after looking on the internet of all the problems with this transmission I decided to take it apart anyway. To my surprise I found the problem in the transmission that I'm sure everyone else if having with theirs.

In my opinion it was not a mechanical failure, but a design and engineering flaw. There is a set of gears that are part of the final drive to the ring and pinion that had a bearing failure due to NOT getting any fluid on them which caused the bearing to melt down inside the case and cause the bearing to come apart and move to a point where it does NOT make contact with the gears of the final drive. The transmission housing does NOT have any provisions to get any transmission fluid into the bearing cavity.

I have found the bearings to be replaced at a auto parts store. The other problem that I am having is not being able to find a rebuild kit for this transmission. I do NOT want to put a used transmission in the car to have the same problem. I would prefer to fix this one myself and put it back in and save my money to spend else where. If anyone would like to see the pictures of what I have found, feel free to send me a email at yunt2@charter.net and I will send them to you.

Altima L32-L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 45,000 miles

I BOUGHT MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA BRAND NEW IN 14-4-2011, ABOUT ONE WEEK LATER I HAVE TO CHANGE THE BATTERY, MY CAR IS MADE IN USA AND EXPORTED TO GULF COUNTRIES( LIKELY OMAN, S ) AND THEN IMPORTED TO TRIPOLI-LIBYA IN MAY 2008 BY AL-CAPTAN CAR IMPORT. WITH READING FROM DISPLAY CONSOLE BEFORE TAKING IT TO REPAIR SHOP. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING MY CAR ABOUT 45000 LIKY IN MILEAGE (SINCE IT MADE IN USA). DURING THESE YEARS I CAN SAY I HAVE NO SERIOUS PROBLEMS EXCEPT TWO MAJOR REPAIR; IN FIRST, I HAVE CHECKED NUMBER OF SENSORS, CHANGING SPARK PLUGS, OTHER ROUTINE SERVICES, ALL THESE BECAUSE BAD ACCELERATION SOMETIMES, IN THE SECOND REPAIR; I HAD NEW FUEL PUMP, REPLACING TWO SENSORS NEW AND CHECKED OTHERS, AND CLEANING THE FUEL TANK. THE LATER REPAIR BECAUSE MY CAR SUDDENLY WON'T MOVE BUT WITH ENGINE IS STARTING . solenoid

FOR THE TIME BEING MY CAR STILL CANNOT MOVE AND I AM TRYING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IN THE REPAIR SHOP.
