Armada 4WD 8-cyl

  • 118,542 miles
I was operating my 2006 Nissan Armada and was traveling at highway speeds when I noticed that my brake light was on. I tested the brakes and immediately heard a grinding and popping noise and noises that indicated to me that the ABS was activating off and on. The pedal was very soft and my braking effectiveness was severely diminished. Had I needed to make a sudden stop or been expecting my brakes to react normally, I would not have been able to stop in a safe distance. I pulled to the side of the road and visually inspected the brakes and found no issues. I checked the brake fluid level and saw that it was fine (just below the max mark and well above the min). By this time my brake light, vdc off, and slip light were all illuminated. I shut the vehicle off then restarted it. The three lights were still lit, but the brakes were reacting normally. Error code C1179 was pulled from the vdc module. Eventually, the brake booster (with the delta stroke sensor) and the pressure sensors were replaced by the Nissan dealership at my expense. I also found that many consumers have reported similar braking issues on consumeraffaris.com. Nissan Armada forums describe similar issues with brake failures and warning lights. Many take their car to a Nissan dealership only to be told that a problem cannot be found. The following link displays over 25 pages of forums related to this issues with the Nissan Armada: www.clubarmada.com/forums/gtsearch.php?cx=partner-pub-7865546952023728%3ao3K5uc-I2bl&cof=forid%3A11&ie=utf-8&Q=vdc+slip+brake&sa=search&siteurl=www.clubarmada.com%252fforums%252fshowthread.php%253ft%253D12666#1190 this thread details a crash that occurred due to brake failure on a Nissan titan (same platform as the Armada) where the driver was injured: www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-pictures-media-post/120896-death-family.html

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Armada le. While driving approximately 25-30 mph during a rain storm the parking brake, ABS, vdc and traction control lights illuminated on the dashboard. He heard a loud noise coming from the brakes when they were engaged. He also stated that the speedometer was moving up and down and the vehicle became hesitant while driving. He drove onto the emergency lane and turned the vehicle off. Within a few minutes the vehicle started but the speedometer was not working and some of the warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who performed a diagnostic test. The dealer advised him that the ABS computer had burned. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 51,300 and the current mileage was 51,327.
