Push-button start works sometimes & sometimes does not. I'm afraid to take it out for fear of being stuck out in town & needing a tow job. I have a feeling that Nissan will not fix this, even though it was a common problem on the 2009 Cube & 2010 Altimas.

Car won't start, this is the 5 -6 time this has happened to me in 8 months. The car seems unreliable to go any where especially with the kids. Been stranded at the mall, grocery store, gas station, funeral out of town, out to dinner , visit out of town, and now yesterday unable to start car for work. Risk of towing every time. We have a remote starter installed and are usually able to get it to start after an hour or so . This is a real problem and should be addressed by Nissan. We are making an appointment tomorrow as the service is been closed for Christmas holidays. We replaced the car battery and the FOB batteries thinking that would help..... so that's NOT The problem. Brake light work so it's not the brake pedal switch.

After quite a bit of research this seems to be a common problem with many 2010 Nissans, Cubes especially. Nissan did a voluntary recall on certain 2009 cube electronic steering columns, sure would be nice if they had included 2010 in there as well since they have the same issues. Pretty upset about this because this isn't something I'm in control of whereas if I didn't put oil in the car and the engine crashed... my fault. This is a crap electronic issue that is Nissan's fault that I'll surely have to pay for.

ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) WAS MALFUNCTIONING, AS DIAGNOSED BY A NISSAN DEALER. THE CAR WAS PARKED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND IT WOULD NOT START, NO ENGINE, OR INTO ACC MODE BECAUSE THE ESCL DID NOT SENSE THE BRAKE PEDAL BEING PRESSED OR THE WHEEL IN LOCKED POSITION. PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL TOO START THE CAR DID NOTHING, AND ENGINE START BUTTON DID NOT WORK BUT A SOLID AMBER KEY ICON ON THE DASH BOARD WOULD COME UP AND DISAPPEAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. DID SOME RESEARCH, AND IT TURNS OUT THAT NISSAN HAD PROBLEMS W 2009 SAME ESCL PART = steering lock PART# ON MY UNIT - WE HAVE PHOTOS -487001FA0B MANUFACTURE DATE 09-30-09 THE SAME AS THE ONLY CUBE MODEL YEAR RECALLED.- FROM 2009-2010 INCLUDING CUBE 2009 AND ALTIMA/MAXIMA 2010 WHICH SEEMED TO SHARE THE SAME ESCL PART USED MY CUBE 2010 WHICH IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. DEALER WANTS OVER 800.00 TOO FIX A KNOWN DEFECT. THERE ARE MANY RESOURCES ONLINE (FACEBOOK, YOUTUBE, WEB FORUMS) WHERE PEOPLE DRIVING MODELS OTHER THAN ALTIMA AND MAXIMA EXPERIENCE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, YET ALTIMA AND MAXIMA OWNERS GET WARRANTY EXTENSIONS AND EVERYONE ELSE GETS SADDLED WITH A $800 REPAIR BILL OR MORE. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR EVERY MODEL AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM, NOT JUST TWO MODELS AND JUST ONE MODEL YEAR WHEN THE 2010'S HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND PART . OUR CUBE HAS 47,000 MILES - THERE IS A June 23, 2011

I parked this car in a parking lot, came out and it would not start on the coldest day of the year in Iowa (luckily my 3 children were not with me being it was -33 with windchill). Come to find out it was the steering lock that has been recalled in the 09 and 10 Maxima and Altima. I called Nissan after the 60 dollar tow and said this seems to have an awful lot of complaints and you know this part is faulty from these years.

Long story short, I got strapped for an $870 dollar fix and Nissan would not cover any of it. I will not ever own another in my lifetime due to a company that will not take care of something that is obviously faulty out of the factory!! Buy at your own risk, hopefully you don't get screwed and left stranded!

Nissan has extended the warranty to unlimited miles for 2009 Cubes with this problem. It is rampant through Nissan lines that have the keyless ignition system if you look for it online.

It is ridiculous that Nissan does not honor this across the board on all cars with the keyless system.

History: As soon as it gets cold outside this problem acts up. Only occurs if you start up the car and drive it, turn it off, then try to start it again. Usually will start if you leave it sit for 15minutes or more. Car almost always starts when it has been left to sit overnight. But after you reach your first destination yer stuck for at least 15 min.

Replacing key fob battery does not fix this.

As soon as the weather warms up or the vehicle sits inside for a while the problem disappears. So when you take it to a dealership they tell you there's nothing wrong.

Lived with it all last winter....spring summer No Problem....back to winter again and it is happening again.

Love this car .....HATE this problem and the bill to fix something the manufacturer KNOWS is FAULTY.

PLEASE POST YOUR COMPLAINTS HERE AND MAYBE THEY WILL REIMBURSE US later like they've done with 2009 owners. IF YOU DON'T they will just get away with it.
