muffler rusted

less than 19k miles. Bought the Cube from dealer 3.5 years ago. Not under warranty. Pipe came loose and started rattling very loudly - was almost afraid to drive car. Doubled checked with dealer and Nissan corporate - muffler is not covered under the extended engine warranty.

I understand they cannot cover all parts forever, but 3.5 years with a low mileage car seems a bit short to have to worry about exhaust problems. I've read other reports from older cubes about a defect in the connection between the pipe and muffler - but have not heard of a recall.

Update from Sep 21, 2016: Nissan corporate refunded me the cost of muffler (not labor) - would not say if they would pay for cost of mid-pipe replacement as the work was not done yet.

So far, I'm out about $250 with an expectation of having to pay $700 to replace the mid-pipe.

(Corporate said the check will be about $250 to cover muffler)
