My 2011 Juke was repaired under the service bulletin issue in 2014 Re: Timing chain tensioner. At that time, the cat had about 41,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealership where I had purchased the vehicle, even though hey had an absolutely atrocious service department. They performed the work required in the bulletin and said there was a 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty on it.

Flash forward around 3 years and 38,000 miles later and the car starts making severe rattling and scraping sounds coming from the engine. I took it to the dealership I had purchased it from (reluctantly, they were the only option that evening). Doing some research, I found that the timing chain/tensioner was the likely culprit and explained this to the Tech. He listened to the car for 10-15 second and said that nothing was wrong and that he wasn't interested in my evidence.

He then stated smugly that if I wanted to leave it there a mechanic would eventually look into my nonexistent noise complaint for $200. I decided to bring it to an alternate Nissan dealership when they had an appointment available the following week. They diagnosed the issue as the timing chain tensioner needing replacement for at least $2400. They also made crystal clear that Nissan would not be providing any relief in this matter because they apparently believe that replacing a timing chain every 41,000 miles is entirely reasonable.

I found a local ASE certified shop to do it for $1,800. So seeing as Nissan had basically told me to f*ck off and pound sand I decided to use that local shop. The mechanic thought I should contact Nissan corporate to get reimbursed and finally my complaint got escalated to the regional customer service manager. I spoke with her about 40 minutes ago and she apologized for the trouble and the issues at the dealerships, but advised that because of the fact that I had gone to a non Nissan mechanic service after Nissan had told me to piss off, they would be unable to reimburse me for the repair costs.
