Murano

  • 101,700 miles
Murnao has been maintained wth all oil changes/schd mx done by the book. Couple of days ago I was sitting in line at a drive thru and the car abruptly died. There were no warning lights prior to the event. The service engine soon light came on then went back off after a restart. Then yesterday it died while slowing to a stop sign at aprox 15 mph. This time the service light stayed on after the restart. Again this morning it died, this time in traffic while traveling at aprox 50 mph. Parked the Murano and borrowed a friends car for the rest of the day. Did my homework online and noticed the recall for this engine stall. Got the engine codes from a local shop and suprise; camshaft position/crank position sensors. Of course when I called Nissan my VIN is not affected by the recall 03V455000. Contacted local Nissan dealer, est repair costs $600+. Nissan is not holding up its end of thier deal on this vehicle. Please take note, do not buy Nissan.

We purchased a new 2003 Nissan Murano when they first came out. Over time we noticed that the car would stall almost all the time after we first started it in the morning. We did not think much about this and just dealt with it after taking it to our Nissan dealer who could not tell us what was wrong. This was a few years ago. Three days ago my wife was driving home from work and the car just died while she was driving and the service engine light came on. Immediatley the next morning we took the car to our local car repair shop in purcellville, va to have the car looked at. I did not fee comfortable taking the car to our nearest Nissan dealer 30 miles away given what just happened. The repair shop called and said our car had a voluntary recall for camshaft position sensors and they was causing the problem. They printed out the recall and told me to call Nissan to have them fix the problem instead of having to pay my local repair shop. I called our Nissan dealership and reporting my problem and they told me the VIN of my car was not part of the voluntary recall. I said if I have the problem and it has been verified why would you not fix it-- its not safe! long story short - I took the car to a Nissan dealership and they also confirmed that my car has the problem but that Nissan will not fix. I find this horrible and need your help.

2003 Nissan Murano camshaft sensor failed, causing vehicle to stall in traffic on freeway. Occurs regularly when vehicle has been in traffic. Sometimes vehicle stalls and catches itself; other times, it stalls and has power failure. Vehicle taken to Nissan Murano dealer (santa monica) and told that 2003 recall for exact problem does not apply to AWD models. Asking $600 for repairs.

I own a 2003 Nissan Murano. I bought the vehicle several months ago.. last night we were driving on a very curvy mountain road when a car came into sight. When we switched to dim, the lights went out completely. This put us in total darkness. It took a minute to adjust our eyes and realize what happened. This has happened on several occasions. The dimmer switch is on the steering wheel. The switch to turn them off is on the end of the dimmer handle. We keep our runner lights on each time we are driving the car. Some how when you go to switch the lights the knob turns to off, which makes them go out, when you switch from bright to dim and from dim to bright. This is a very scary situation to be in. I wonder if other folks have had a similar problem. We were very fortunate that we did not crash.

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Murano. While driving approximately 40 to 50 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The check engine indicator illuminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle shut off a total of four times, but was able to be restarted. The contact took the vehicle to the repair shop for a diagnosis and the camshaft position sensor was initially determined to be the cause of the failure. The mechanic then stated that if the camshaft position sensor was replaced, it would not correct the failure. The contact was informed that the real issue was with the computer and electrical system in the vehicle. He was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnosis. The manufacturer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03V455000 (engine and engine cooling). The contact will take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The current and failure mileages were 41,000. Updated 3/27/09 updated 04/01/09.(jb

When in traffic under appx 10 mph, you accelerate and it does nothing, then suddenly takes off. You don't know when it is going to happen. It is very random and once it starts doing it, it keeps doing it until you stop the engine and restart the car. I have to pull out on a busy street in the afternoon, and have almost been hit. I have taken it to two Nissan dealerships and all they do is say it is a vacuum line. They said I needed new motor mounts to keep the engine stable so that they won't get loose. I had them replaced and it did not fix the problem. The problem does not throw an error code, so no one, including a very reputable auto repair garage, can fix it. We have even started guessing what the problem might be, ie, fuel injectors - had them cleaned - no change. I have now spent almost $3K and I still have the same problem. Nissan tells me that there is a recall, but not for my serial number. I have been dealing with this since about May.

While driving on busy road, brake light and check engine lights came on. At the same time, the car lost power (though it did not stall). When giving it throttle, the engine refused to speed up. It was like being in a "fail safe" mode, like when speed sensors go out. Could not safely pull over or drive...managed to get to side of road and call for a tow. Nissan dealer said it was the alternator. They had already replaced the alternator under a recall.

I was traveling out of town alone with my 3 children and after we had been on the road for about 3 1/2 hours, the front windshield wipers came on by themselves along with the back windshield wipers, the lights were going on and off by themselves, the left blinker came on by itself, and the dash information (dte, fuel economy) was just coming on and off by itself. There was water coming out of the fuse box on the drivers side, and you could hear a sizzling sound. I took it to the nearest Nissan dealer, they said they fix it and I got back on the road and it happened again 2 hours later same stuff. I just turned off the ac and kept driving with everything going crazy, because all the service departments were closed and I could not get anyone to help me. When I arrived at my destination I took it to the nearest Nissan dealership the next day and they said that the ac hose was loose and was allowing water to get into everything. I hope it is fixed, but I am now scared to drive it anywhere and I have to travel 6 hours away from home every now and then because I have a child 6 hours away from home in college and you never know when I will have to go up there unexpectedly. I am thing about trading it off because I do not feel safe in it anymore, but the trade in value is a lot less than the pay off.

After I lock up my Nissan Murano I will come to it from a movie theater of from my home to drive it and both of the front windows will be completely down and the vehicle will be unsecured. This morning my Murano was full of snow since we had 12 inches last night. I took it to the dealer and they played with the key fobs and nothing would happen and as we were standing their with no one touching the key fobs - the windows went down by themselves again. This feature is only supposed to happen when you hold down the open button on the key fob to let in cool air in the summer before you get into your Murano. Robert dittel.

The consumer states that the 2003 Nissan Murano experienced a loss of power while driving at 20 mph. The vdc off and the slip where the lights T came on in the dashboard. These lights came on the first time that this happened. The next time that the loss of power was experienced the light did not come on. The car has been at the dealership twice for this issue. The Muranos shifter was also sticking, and you could not get the car to go into park or reverse. The car would not go any higher than neutral. At about 36,600 miles, the battery and brake light both came on. After tapping the emergency brake lightly several times, both lights went off. However, 100 miles later, both lights came on again. At 36,835 miles, while driving 55 mph at night to dulles airport, the vehicle became sluggish, the accelerator pedal became unresponsive, dash lights dimmed, and the vehicle coasted and stalled, all within about 700 meters, after which it wouldn't start. In February 2005 the alternator failed to charge the battery and the car slowed to a complete stop and the battery died in the middle of a busy intersection. I had to tow the car to the nearest dealership and the car was repaired 48 hours later. In March 2005 the gas tank lid wouldn't open and the car was running out of gas. I drove the car to the dealership and it took 48 hours to repair. However, the "repair" was done by prying the lid open and I still have not recieved the new part. In May 2005 the transmission failed in the middle of a busy intersection and I had to tow the car to the dealership. They still have the car and expect to have it for two weeks at least. They cannot guarentee that they will pay for the rental car costs which will amount to at least $350 at $25 a day. This car only has 35,000 miles on it.

While driving down one of the busiest 8 lane highways in tampa my car decided that it didn't want to stay cranked and died right smack in the middle of the intersection. Luckily, my room mate was behind me and jumped out to help me push it back into the parking lot. We assumed it was out of gas, which it wasn't. afterwards, we realized that we tried to jump the car off because now it wasn't turning over. It cranked, and I made it to the intersection. Again, it died on me once more. So we left the car overnight in barnes and noble parking lot. I came back Sunday afternoon May 1, 2005 and replaced the battery. It cranked right up. I drove 2 miles home. Then 6 miles to North tampa, only to have my car die pulling into the parking lot of a friend's apartment complex. I let it sit for a few hours, cranked it up and it cranked. Then managed to make it to the on ramp of I75 South, only to have it die again. It wa S now sitting at a friends house. I managed to drive it 1 mile an hour in idle into someone's apartment complex, where it now sits waiting for someone to tow it to the Nissan dealership.
