Since I purchased my 2003 Nissan Murano, I have had several failures with it that the dealer has either claimed they cannot reproduce, has failed to fix or indicates that my model is not part of a recall effort, even when my car is reproducing the very same symptoms the recalls state they address. The last incident was the alternator and the failure of the cam position sensors and crank position sensors. Both have caused the vehicle to simply stop in ongoing traffic creating an obvious safety hazard for my family! does someone have to actually die before will accept responsibility for faulty construction with the Murano" this is not the first life-threatening incident I have had with this car!!! I was on the interstate doing 70 mph when all of a sudden the engine died!!! I completely lost acceleration on interstate 70 at 10:30 P.M. at night with small children in the car! what did the dealership do to rectify this situation" replaced the alternator that was already on recall and threatened to charge me for the cost until I threatened legal action...then, all of a sudden, took care of it! information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The consumer stated this was not the first time the engine abruptly shut off. The first incident happened in July 2007. But, the vehicle was restarted and was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. Prior to the first two incidents, the engine stalled on May 10, 2010. I was pulling off the freeway when my car started to hesitate. When I got to the light my car stalled and the panel lights dimmed. After some time I was able to get to a safe place to call aaa and I towed the car to the dealer. I was told it was the alternator and they didn't have the part and I had to wait over a week and 1/2 before I was able to get my car back.

Murano 6-cyl

  • 34,000 miles
Heard noise from engine compartment under low RPM range. Took vehicle to local Nissan dealer for inspection of problem and mechanic could not duplicate but was advised by shop mechanic about worn drive belt. Vehicle is @ 34,000 miles. Upon investigation at home from top of engine bay, I noticed ac/alternator idler pulley was vibrating and rotating of axis to the crack pulley. I investigated online at www.nissanmurano.org for similar problems. I found a series of reports that the bracket that holds the idle pulley was broken and causes cutting into the adjustment arm and causing the noise (eventually failing). Returned vehicle to the dealer and informed dealer of idler pulley problem researched online and request belt service. When mechanic removed the belt, the idler pulley assembly was found to be broken. I believe this is a serious design issue and Nissan should provide a better design and recall a $16 part. Potential issues of failure of pulley: 1) nearby vicinity of the radiator coolant return hose can cut by broken bracket and can cause engine to overheat. 2) could lead to an alternator not providing energy to the car and a more serious consequences. Consumer is seeking reimbursement for recall failure. Mc the consumer stated upon contacting the dealer to see if the warranty covered the mechanical failure, she was informed there was a recall issued for this vehicle with the same problem she was encountering with the vehicle which was the alternator. The car was purchased in July 05 but the recall was issued back in may of 05, so that might be why the consumer was not informed. However, the consumer is surprised to know that the dealer did not replace the alternator due to the recall prior to the purchase of the vehicle. The consumer provided a copy of the invoice and would like to be reimbursed for the repairs.

Nissan Murano 2003 service engine check lightcame on and vehicle slowed down on the freeway and I had to find a shoulder after an overpass bridge to pull over for my safe and for my 2 toodlers children. I check the recall on the internet for this and it was a recall back in 2003 that I did not recieve a notice in the mail. I call a car dealer and denying me for the recall. I call the consumer affair customer service and 7/2/2007 and case is pending. I feel so unsafe to drive this vehicle because since 2003 this vehicle has five recalls such as gas tank, set belt, engine and engine cooling, transmission nut not tighten enough and alternator.

There was a recall on the alternator for my 2003 Nissan Murano, this resulted in a tested failure with my battery, once tested with the Nissan registered battery tester however there was then no perceived problem. After requesting that it be replaced for my safety they refused and I contacted Nissan customer service. After 8 weeks I still had not been in contact with a regional specialist and yesterday my battery died on me. Fortunately this was within a safe environment at my work. I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and went through a lot of stress and exertion at a very dangerous time in order to have the car safely towed to the nearest Nissan dealership. My concern is this could have happened anywhere and would have left me unsafely abandoned.

Changed alternator once before at dealership and it took 1-month to have it repaired. In November, the car failed to start after having all the light indicator go off. Very disturbing being abandoned. I believed that the car was going to be a "lemon" and decided to no longer own the Murano. I was left with no choice but to look for another vehicle.

In early January 2005, the charge warning and brake warning lights came on while operating my 2003 Nissan Murano. As a result, I contacted Nissan service dept in my city. I took it in, they replaced the battery and the alternator without charge. However, the service department was not aware of problems with the Nissan of this nature. They did indicate that a couple had been in recently for the same problem. Because my car was under warranty, it was free repairs, however the repairs were not done in a timely manner since they were not going to be getting any money from me. I'm a single mom with two kids who relies on the safety and accessibility of my vehicle. To be driving a car with these kind of problems could have been tragic. The inconvenience of not having a vehicle is hindering given the need to attend work and school for the kids. I wish someone would have said something more than 8 months ago.
