problem #4

Murano SL 3.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I bought the car a few years ago - they thought the transmission was failing but it didn't drive like the transmission had the problem, it seemed that the engine had the problem. I tried some sea foam to clean out the engine and it seemed like it was working, then the engine started to make a metal tearing noise like a piston ring or rings had failed, then the engine started to burn oil. Of course, my fault I didn't pay attention to the noises the engine was making, and soon enough, there was a problem inside the engine. It was cheaper to replace the engine.

And all was good for a year, then the car got stuck in the snow (of course, I wasn't driving it - I don't know what happened but the car had a noise and vibration from the passenger side floor). I had it in to the dealership and they found that that transfer case failed, and they gave me two estimates. One at $ 7500 for a new one, and a rebuilt one for $ 4500 - but the car's value is some were between $2500 to $3500. It's been good news over all, I found a local repair shop that has a good reputation and will install a new transfer case for under $3500 with a full warranty. I wish I could get Nissan to pay for it but it is not their problem, it's on me only.

Murano SL V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 68,000 miles

Had the transfer case replaced in 2010, about 15,000 miles ago. Brought it in today for other service and was to it needed to be replaced again! What the heck!! Bad enough that it went out the first time but again after only 15,000 miles!!! They told my wife it was because she didn't drive the car enough! We are retired and need 2 cars in the burbs and I have never heard of a car needing major repairs due to not being driven enough!

Nissan covered this completely last time. Much appreciated!! Had no idea this would come up again, ever, let alone so soon!

Murano SL V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 53,000 miles

We bought this vehicle new and expected to keep it through retirement. When the transmission started making bad sounds we brought it in and were told the seal on the transfer case failed and they needed to replace it at a cost over $3000. Our warranty had expired by a few months and the mileage was 3000 miles over but this seemed like a design or assemble problem so we complained to Nissan's national customer service center with support from our local dealer. It took a few weeks but we were contacted and told it would be covered by Nissan. Not sure but I think the dealer's support helped a lot.

Still wonder why this would go out so soon, but THANKS to Nissan for standing behind their car!

Nov 082013

Murano SL V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

This problem first occurred Nov/2013 I took it Gregoris Nissan where I brought it. The services department explained to me that it was the transfer case and the gears had to be replaced, the right front axle boot torn and repaired, front brakes pads and rotors resurface and the cost was $3750.00

Now the car is making the same noise as then and now the repair department is saying it's not the same problem it is the rear differential and to repair it will be $2023.00. I can't understand it - isn't any of this covered under the warranty or recalled, I'm retired and cannot afford this.
