Murano SL V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 57,000 miles

First off, we have a tremendously responsive dealership in Wilsonville, Oregon where we purchased the Murano. There were only approximately under 10 cases in the U.S. ever reported, so it was an unusual problem. We'd heard a knocking noise that gradually grew louder over time. It was noticeable at idle - especially when the brake was on, or when there was a load on the engine.

The dealership consulted with their corporate offices and video-taped the sounds and signs of stress appearing under the engine. They determined it was rod knock and mentioned that small metal pieces were appearing in the oil (engine oil?). They replaced the engine with no questions whatsoever. They said it was highly unusual, but the master mechanic had heard of one other case on a 2014 Nissan Maxima V6. I found the issue on the web, and there were only 2 Murano cases I could see and perhaps 2 with Maximas.
