problem #1

NV2500 2500HD SV 4.0V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,000 miles

Brought the NV to the dealership 3 times for no A/C, engine stalling, drove the vehicle for 1 year with no A/C. The dealership repaired the A/C problem each time and the repair would fail within a week, meanwhile the engine still stalls when throttle pushed aggressively.

Near the end of 2013 (Oct.) the vehicle stalled under normal acceleration putting me in dangerous situations so back to the dealership. Each time at the dealership a rental van is needed to continue my electrical contracting (I would have to move tools and materials every time from one van to the other, about 6hr.). Received the van back and problems with stalling still existed, the A/C failed within three days and there was no heat. The morning after the repairs I noticed a small puddle of oil under the van. I went under and noticed the oil was coming from the oil filter not tightened during the last repairs, the van was 2000 miles from being out of warranty.

Extremely frustrated the van was parked for 2 weeks while a rental was used to continue business at even more cost. Meanwhile the decision was made that the oil was going to be changed in house rather than at the dealership, when the oil was removed it was burned severely and a little milky so back to the dealership. When the van arrived at the dealership I explained what I found with the oil and said the oil filter was not tightened, the manager smirked and shook his head. Now I'm really upset. A day later a Nissan rep. called my shop and stated that Nissan had problems with a select few engines with pin hole leaks in the heads leaking coolant into the cylinders and the engine would be replaced. Nissan did finally repair the vehicle with a new engine.

The new motor, like the last, has a loud valve lash sound under load and now I don't trust it as I have lost customers because of this thing (when I see it I get angry). The lesson I learned is not to just purchase the vehicles outright but make the payments in case it is a lemon, I tried to trade it in but the loss would be over 20K at this point. We will never use Nissan again. After renting a Mercedes Freightliner so often I decided it is a better vehicle, however, not as comfortable (who cares when reliability is paramount) and will be my next work vehicle.
