problem #1

Jul 112014

Pathfinder ST-L 2.4L L Diesel

  • Automatic transmission
  • 124,274 miles

Along with other problems on the steering wheel (see below) I now have no horn.

I was driving slowly through the show grounds with 2 idiots on a scooter and 1 kid on a push bike coming straight at me. I figured a large vehicle like the Pathfinder with the headlights on would stand out.

They were not looking.

At the last minute the scooter swerved away but the bike kept coming. I hit the brakes and the horn and no horn. (I did not want to use the horn as I was surrounded by horses and right next to the ring where they were show jumping.)

I have the late 2006 model that had upgrades fitted to it before delivery that gave me the 6 stacker CD and the better stereo, along with some other modifications that became standard on the 2007 model.

(The problem has continued to grow - first the stereo control buttons on the steering wheel, then air bag warning light started flashing, then buttons to control the display and trip meters went next, then the cruise control buttons, and now the horn won't work.)

Update from Aug 10, 2014: I used the link on the home page to chat with a Nissan expert online - he diagnosed my problem as a faulty Clock Spring (also known as a Spiral Cable).

My local dealer confirmed the diagnosis and completed the repairs for just under AU$500.
