Quest 6-cyl

  • 16,000 miles
This is for a 2008 Nissan Quest, but the complain is very similar to the NHTSA campaign id number: 06V003000. I was driving on the freeway going home, and as soon as I enter the garage and get off the vehicle, there is a very strong smell of gas. I knee down and saw that there is a stream of liquid coming out from the bottom of the vehicle, immediately, I put the vehicle out of the garage and park in the street instead, call Nissan roadside assistance immediately and they help to call 911 to have fire department come out and put a temp fix to stop the leak. The vehicle was then tow to closest Nissan dealership immediately. Based on what I read from NHTSA campaign id number: 06V003000, due to the location of the forward edge of the fuel tank, in the event that a vehicle front tire runs over a small, sharp object in the road, catches it and propels it towards the rear of the vehicle, it may strike and puncture the fuel tank, and I think this is what happen. The fuel tank is made of plastic and is expose outside without any shield protection from the front which is similar to the Nissan murano, I don't understand why Nissan recall to put a shield for murano and not the Quest. For now, Nissan has not agreed yet to cover the damage.
