Rogue V4

  • CVT transmission
  • 98,000 miles

Well, I see that I am not alone on this problem. The sealant on the paint started peeling, it started on the front roof and the back hatch and now the front of the roof is almost bare. I had 3 three accidents that were not my fault. I has them fixed. So now the front end, the drivers side and passenger sides all look showroom perfect, but the roof looks like crap!!!

Why has Nissan not done a recall on this situation? It's apparently a factory problem. Also my red paint faded to a rust shade. Just like the other complaints. It's not right, they wanted 1,000 dollars to repaint it. I do not have it. I should not have to pay for it.

Rogue SL AWD

  • CVT transmission
  • 125,000 miles

I bought my 2011 (fully loaded) Nissan Rogue SL back in 2017. It had 89,000 miles on it. It is Cayenne Red in color (or is supposed to be). It is currently 12 miles shy of 127,000 miles. I am still paying on the (5 year) loan. But the extended warranty I purchased has expired. (And after speaking with Nissan, Only the MANUFACTURERS, FACTORY WARRANTY would have covered paint issues... which expired before I bought the car). Well here's the problem I'm having with the clearcoat/paint:

Although I have always maintained my vehicle well, the clearcoat is peeling off the body, making it look like total trash. It's gotten so bad, that during the last really windy day we had, their were pieces of clearcoat peeling and blowing off the roof, onto my windshield (while I was sitting in it)!! This is unacceptable!! There's peeling EVERYWHERE!! On the hood, the roof, the rear hatchback, and it's spreading like Cancer. Not to mention, under the rear window all of the clearcoat has peeled away, and is affecting the paint underneath now!!

Theres no rust on the car. But if they don't do something about it, it will begin to rust. ALSO The hood paint is streaky, with an orangey-rust color. The paint literally looks like its "changing colors". I have NEVER had anything like this happen, to ANY other car I have owned in my life, (and I'm almost 44 years old). There's never been any body work done to my car either. It is FACTORY PAINTED!! But NISSAN HEADQUARTERS says "Because of the vehicle's age and mileage, and the MANUFACTURER WARRANTY being expired, theres nothing we can do"!! WHAT?!?! 😳🤬 So I'm just expected to continue to make payments on a car that looks like absolute Trash!! This isn't right at all. I am a disabled person and cannot afford to have the car repainted. NOR SHOULD I BE THE ONE THAT HAS TO FIX THEIR MISTAKE!! NISSAN should be repainting the entire car (correctly), at THEIR expense, NOT mine.

And here's the kicker......Even IF I wanted to SELL IT, and get another vehicle, the paint issues lower the value of my Rogue by about $4,000!! 😱😳And if I chose to used it as a "TRADE IN" on another vehicle, It would actually SCREW ME, because it would wind up costing me money in the end (due to the lowered value from the paint issues). So I'm screwed whether keep it, sell it or trade it in!! This is NOT ok. I mean, how can you take pride in your vehicle, when paint defects affect how your vehicle looks, and the Manufacturer WON'T right THEIR wrong?! (But They happily took my Money when I bought it. 🤬😡

Nissan needs to step up and do something about this. And not at the customers expense!! If they won't make this right, the next step may have to be a Class Action Suit. I'm not going to put up with this. This is NOT ok.

Rogue S

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,500 miles

Did not expect the paint on a 7 yr old car with only 34500 miles on it to be fading. The paint on the entire metal body of the car is fading (all plastic parts, i.e. bumpers, are fine) to an ugly rust color. The clear coat has also started peeling on the roof.

Rogue SL

There seems to be a paint issue with Nissans that they do not want to address. I may seem to be jumping on the band wagon a little late with this issue but I have idly sat (driven) by with the same problem that I have read here and elsewhere regarding Nissans Clear Coating Defects.

So, if I may put in my 2 cents worth, it would be appreciated.

I purchased my 2011 Rouge new from the dealership with 17 miles on the odometer in the fall of 2011. Never had any issues and was pleased with my purchase. Until in Feb 2013, I was involved in an vehicle vs pedestrian accident. Where the pedestrian was at fault! I had the car repaired; windshield replaced, front passenger door and front fender painted and remote side mirror replaced.

Fast forward March 2016, I was backed into at a shopping mall parking lot. Smashed the rear bumper and dinged the rear corner panel. Went back to body shop where I had it repaired previously. They said that they could repair the damaged but could not guarantee that the paint would match the rest of the vehicle, since it had been painted before. I told them that they were the only person that painted the vehicle and that the car had not been repaired anywhere else.

The presence of "orange peel" and dullness on the drive side led him to believe that the my car had been "repainted" before by a non professional body shop due to the imperfections he pointed out. That was when he point out a small spot on the tailgate under the the rear window. I also had noticed it recently thinking it was a bird dropping but he pointed out that it appeared that the clear coating was beginning to separate.

He said that the clear coat may be defective or the paint was not prep properly at factory and that I should contact the Nissan or the dealership. Even though it was outside the warranty period. he thought that maybe they repair the defect since it seemed so blatant to him professionally.

Well, I immediately went to the Nissan Dealership and asked to speak to the General Mgr. Of course, he was not in and was directed to the sales mgr. He was very polite and looked at the paint job and agreed that it did appear that the clear coating seemed to be peeling. He then said that since it was outside the warranty there was nothing they could do about it!! He seemed sympathetic about it and then said that I should have brought it in under the warranty period and that they would have covered it. I looked at him and said that if it had happened during the warranty period I WOULD have brought it in!!

I later contacted Nissan USA and explained my situation and my displeasure regarding the paint issue and my local dealership. They were professional and replied to my email and said that a regional representative would contact me. One did call me at home and they listened, seem very sympathetic to my issues and again said "since it was outside the warranty there was very little (nothing) they could do". And remarkably, similar to the dealership response, asked why I didn't notified them while the vehicle was still under warranty!!!!

Fast forward to the time of this rant. Half the clear coat on the tail gate has peeled, the entire driver side, the hood, and roof all shows sign of peeling. In fact, the entire car shows clear coat damaged and peeling with the exception of where the car had been professionally repaired!! That area looks like it just came off the showroom floor!! Go figure.

Hopefully other Roguers and Nissaners will read this and the other stories and maybe Nissan will step up. Perhaps not for us (we could hope) but at least for the others owners who still are under warranty. And to them, Please, Please inspect your paint detail for any defects while it is still covered!! And for the ones just surfing the web for articles and information. If you are looking to purchase a new vehicle just keep in mind...would you want your new car manufacture treat their owners like this???

Nissan Service Managers are reluctant to even discuss the problem. I've seen several other Red Nissan Rogues with the very same issue where the clear coat is peeling off and the overall color is turning from red to orange.

The condition of my car is like brand new until in comes to the clear coat peeling off soon it will look like a real piece. I see so many Nissan's with the same problem this will definitely make my 2011 Rogue the last Nissan I will buy if they do not recall the paint.

Rogue 4 Cylinder

  • Automatic transmission
  • 26,598 miles

I bought my Rogue right off the showroom floor in 2011. Since then people have noticed and remarked about the terrible blotchy paint and the dull finish. Some places have even asked me if I had the car painted. Why would I paint a new vehicle? Of course I've never had the car painted. This vehicle has never been in a wreck and there are no dents on it. Now the clear coat is peeling off the hood and the fenders. The dealership says they can't do anything about it because they have changed owners since I bought the car. Well, it is a Nissan dealership and it still is a Nissan. Someone should be fixing this problem.

I'm a 67 year old woman who cannot afford to buy another car or pay to have it correctly painted. This obviously is a factory defect and I wish I had noticed it when I bought it because I would have asked for another car. But what do I know? I have emailed Nissan corporate and am waiting to see what they say. I have an extended warranty but that doesn't cover paint.

Rogue S 2.5L I-4

  • CVT transmission
  • 6,000 miles

I bought my car new on June 1, 2011. Two months later I began to notice spots where the clear coat had bubbled and come completely off. I took the car to the dealership to look at, and they came back and told me that it was bird droppings and the warranty would not cover it. I bought the car June 1 and 6000 miles and two months later I had about 15-20 quarter sized spots where there was no clear coat. Based on the information they showed me, it does look like bird droppings. However, I don't park underneath trees and have never seen any bird droppings on the car. Nissan's refusal to fix this is deplorable. When people ask me how I like the car I tell them that it drives great, but they need to see the horrible paint job on it. Now it is January 1, 2012 and I have about 35 quarter sized spots on the hood, roof, and passenger side of the car.
